The small green house is the Stranahan House, built in Fort Lauderdale in 1901. The Stranahans were founders of Fort Lauderdale and this was a trading post with the Seminole Indians. As you can see, there is a bit of growth happening.
This contrast is amazing, and oddly reminds me of a book I loved as a child, where a little house gets surrounded by skyscrapers but manages to survive by becoming a cookie shop
Great capture with the boat in the foreground and the old and new. Don't you sometimes wonder what the Stranahans would think if they came back to see their house and how it has all changed?
@squamloon thanks for that. I remember following the recipe at the back of the book with my grandma, and I remember it was an extra small book, but I forgot the title and author
@ckwiseman Mrs. Stranahan lived in the house until 1971, when she died. While Ft. Lauderdale was (in my eyes) a sleepy town at the time, she certainly saw many changes. She would teach the Seminole Indian children. She was very strong, as her husband died back in 1929 (suicide from financial losses).
Nice history capture
