Cooper's Hawk

SEVERELY cropped, but it was waiting for me as I drove up. Camera was in back of car; I did not change lens, and just prayed by the time I closed door and rounded the corner (ready to aim), it'd still be there. I got in one shot. These are beautiful hawks with that grey head. They are small too.

Beautiful bird -- I've never seen a cooper's hawk. The red tailed hawk seems to dominate Maryland. Not complaining -- he's a gorgeous bird, too.

@catwoman2 I never noticed a cooper's hawk until this year and I followed a nest of them last summer. They are much smaller to spot and that grey really hides them well. I can recognize the call now, though!

@catwoman2 I have also seen a good number of red-shouldered hawks here. I've only spotted a few red-tailed hawks this year, which is really odd.
