Goodbye Old Friend. Hello Insanity. by darylo

Goodbye Old Friend. Hello Insanity.

I like to think I'm a flexible person. I wish I were someone who took things all in stride, but I don't. I'm guessing if you met me for the first time during this month, you would think I was a foul-mouthed, foul-tempered, foul-looking lunatic--and certainly not flexible. Ok, I'm a lot of all that without the stress of tearing out my entire kitchen.

Tomorrow, my kitchen, which has been dying long and slow over the past year is coming out. All of it. Then some plumbing will move, some electric will be rerun to the circuit breaker, some gas lines will be widened. I've read a billion manuals on appliances, tried to find lighting appliances, picked out granite, ordered sinks, faucets, cabinets. OMG, I'm freaking out. And believe me, I am no designer, so I'm really hoping that all the pieces I have purchased will go together. Cause if somebody can screw it up, I CAN!

The third photo in this collage is of my new "kitchen/dining" area. The fridge will move in there before our work crew will start to take apart our entire kitchen. The cabinet doors are already gone because a neighbor of ours wanted our working hinges--I like the idea of repurposing things!

I broke down today and purchased a Keurig. I use a french press for coffee every day--no waste and the grinds are great for the yard, but I couldn't see cleaning things in my bathroom sink.

Oh, and did I mention that we will be hosting a Japanese exchange student in 6 days for 10 days and I'm the tour organizer for the downtown Atlanta tour?

I think I forgot to take my meds today....
Wow that is stress with a capital S!!! Renovations are not for the faint of heart & kitchens may be the worst. On top of that you are having company .... hope your meds are high powered. Now the good news is that in a few days or weeks you will have the kitchen of your dreams & all the chaos will be forgotten.

I feel for you...but when you come out on the other end, you will be soooo happy to have a new modern kitchen. Good luck and wishing you a smooth process.

You are funny! Your new kitchen is going to look fabulous! Been there. Done that.

Good luck Daryl! I understand the freaking out over all the decisions and chaos during a remodel. I'm in the beginning stages of one in my own home- with two bathrooms torn out and half the house wrapped in plastic. Just keep the goal in mind and think about how much you'll enjoy it when it's done.

You are going to love the colours of the new kitchen - every day! If you have forgotten to take your pills today, I would be scared to learn what you would have on your schedule if you had!

I kind of know how you feel. We are planning a kitchen and bedroom extension on our house in the UK, and although I'm not yet at the stage of choosing things, I am already worried about that aspect of it! Still waiting for the building warrant to be approved and after that it's all go and I'll be doing it at a distance! Yikes! It will undoubtedly be a LOT of hassle, but keep taking the meds! Nice back story and collage to share your project. Looking forward to the follow up images!

It all sounds so stressful but it will be fabulous when it;s all done and well worth all the hassle. Good luck.

Are you sure you have enough to do over the next few weeks? (YIKES - I'd be a total crazy person!) I'll be sending good thoughts your way, and looking forward to seeing your kitchen. And I think you'll love your Keurig -my fav appliance ever.

Love these before pictures of your soon-to-be old kitchen and dining room area! I admire your courage and bravery for attempting this while you are having company! If anybody can do it, it is You, Daryl!! You are nothing if you are not a determined person! Can't wait to see the Afters !

This is a task we have to tackle sometime soon and you're not helping me to look forward to it! Mrs S also wants to rip up the floor and replace the tiles. Good luck and I would welcome any survival tips!

Oh I hope your kitchen reno is a speedy process and your meds strong enough to handle all the disruption.

Oh boy it's a big job you are taking on Daryl but it will be so worth all the hassle! I think the worst thing will be the dust - everywhere else in the house. You are made if strong stuff and will be the kitchen queen! Good luck!
