Time Flies. I Try to Catch What I Can. by darylo

Time Flies. I Try to Catch What I Can.

My oldest daughter went to orientation today for her senior year in high school. Ever since elementary school days, Kira and her two buddies walked to school every day, but it was in Middle school they used to meet at my house, eat breakfast, study vocabulary, then walk over together. So I took a "start photo" their first day in 6th grade. Then I took an "end photo" for middle school. Then I took a start photo for 9th grade at orientation (one child has moved a neighborhood over), and now I have taken the next-to-last shot (graduation will be the final one).

But look at these cute kids. They are our future!

On a side note, I appreciate everyone's comments on my photo collage while my daughter was in the hospital. I have been down a rabbit hole only to emerge with confidence that my child will survive--in fact, she's running today for the first time since July 21 when I brought her home with a badly infected leg from a water-born source (creek/river).

My public service announcement: NEVER go into any natural water source (including the ocean) if you have a wound of any size on your body. The bacteria risks are seriously too high. And no, the ocean's salt is not good for your wounds. I know, crazy. But you do not want to go through what we have.

I have some photos to upload soon. I have a new computer. My van broke down. But I have a senior in the house, which means let's get crackin on those college apps! Wow.
What a precious progression of friendship!

My first reaction was to say how wonderful this collage is and that I know how hard it is to document these shots! There are always those amazingly organized parents who seem to capture and document every pertinent moment in their children's lives, I wish I were one of them! But then as I read your narrative, sounds like a horrid time for your family, so happy to hear that your daughter seems to be on the mend!

So glad things are going well. When we go scalloping, any small wounds get covered with liquid band-aid. What a wonderful thing for you to do...make breakfast for these kids. Those are the best memories.

Good times documented so well. A treasure for sure. She looks like a different kid with bangs too.I really like them!

thanks for the update on her health. I have been praying a lot for her and you. sounds like life is back to crazy normal for you.

Such a treasure full of sweet memories. And she's a senior! Wow! So glad she's running again. I got a foot wound in a lake many years back and got dosed up big time with antibiotics. Guess it was a good thing

@ukandie1 The closest I have come to being one of those organized moms is a plastic bin where I have tossed years of stuff (only to have it remain in the bin). I figure when they leave, I can hand it to them and say, "here, you might want to organize what memories I tried to save for you." The thing I love about photography is that I can at least have a digital record of the years, and 365 helped me locate the first collage I made of them from 6th to 8th grade! ha.

And it looks like we will not be applying to Northwestern or Wash U. I was hoping because it would mean a visit to Chicago and seeing my buddies up there! She's east coasting those apps (and GA Tech too).

@jgpittenger My younger one is the one who got the infection. And it is definitely a good thing--tough on her joints trying to get back to running pace (she's fast). Everything hurts. I keep telling her that she was ordered on bed rest for about 14 days. So now her hip hurts after one day back and she's mad people are passing her. I keep thinking "you're lucky to be able to run--hush." I keep that to myself, though....

@grammyn Thanks for the prayers! xoxo Yes, crazy normal. I don't know what normal is. ;p

@danette Those really were great memories! And I made the kids breakfast a lot of those mornings and I'd quiz them on their words for the week. Some day, those memories will leave my head like they have for my dad, so I'm glad I'm capturing what I can now. Good idea on the liquid skin!!!

@alophoto One of the boys was born the day before my daughter. I consider these two the sons I never had. :)

Lovely photo and how sweet for you and the kids.
It goes by so fast.

How wonderful to see this collage of the changing trio! Just super.

What a great friendship they have! Unbelievable how time flies. It goes by faster every year. I've read a book about why time seems to fly harder with the years. It has something to do with our biological clock. It made sense when I read it, a year ago, but the rest I can't replicate. Can't be my age (56), can it? ;-)

This is such a good idea. So interesting to see how they have changed through the years. I'm so glad your daughter is up and running now. That was a scary moment...
