Blurb Photo Book

January 16th, 2012
Folks - Finished my 365 project at the end of 2011 and got a 370 page book made up to celebrate. I used 'Blurb' to create the book and would highly recommend it! I went for a page a day, hence the hefty size of the book. It arrived today and I'm really pleased with it - The print quality is fantastic. Anyway, I knew there were a few threads earlier looking for ways to create a book, so just thought I'd recommend the company below:

Good to know! I am working on my book thru Blurb as well. I am trying to do it under 160 pages to keep the cost lower. Hope it looks good! Glad yours turned out great!

@gjw did you go with regular paper, or one of the premium choices? I just started working on mine through blurb, but wasn't sure about what type of paper to go with. so glad to hear that you are pleased with the outcome of yours!

Jo
Excellent, I'll be making a book at the end of this year.

Thanks for the feedback! I will be finishing in a couple months and wanted to use them. Just curious what options you chose, and if you don't mind, how much did it cost?

@egad I am working on a Blurb book. I am trying to keep it under 160 pages and the cost will be around $55 or so. I didn't think that was too bad! I am doing a 10x8 book.....and doing custom pages. Let me know if you have any questions when you start....I am starting to get the hang of it now!

Wow, looks awesome! I did a page a week for mine and printed it through Shutterfly. It just came last week, and I am really happy with it. At 58 pages, it ended up being just shy of $60. (I think it was 25% off at the time.)

(I would not, btw, recommend Snapfish for photo books. I had one printed through them where I had designed 12x12 pages in Photoshop, and despite using the full page layout, they all ended up being slightly cropped, and words and letters and things went missing. Harumph.)

Thanks for the info...someday I will be there and now I will know what to do!

@gjw how much did the 370 page come out to be? I would love to do that, but I figured it would be a hefty price. I've been making layouts for a week per page as I go instead.

How hard is Blurb to use? Can you add photo's from this site or do you have to upload the original files?

@dhostick I went for a Large Format Landscape book, hard cover, with 8x10" photos and a page per photo. I went with regular paper as that is all they will do above a certain number of pages. The regular paper looks fine to me. In terms of the cost, well just a little of £100. But hey, it was a years hard work so I treated myself for Christmas :) The key for me was to get all the photos organised prior to uploading. If they are sorted, they can be auto filled into the book. Worst bit was it crashed a few times during the 3 hour photo upload which meant restarting!

@gjw I don't know what software you use for your editing but Blurb has a plugin for Lightroom 3 that works really well! And Lightroom 4 beta has the plugin built in. It exports your chosen photos from Lightroom directly into your Blurb book. Easy! I made a book without it and it took ages to do the same thing.

I have my 370 book ready to go, I just need £100 spare to order it lol!

One per day?! I'm going for a page a week unless it's a favourite but it's taking me ages doing the lay out - one per day would be quicker!

@gjw @amers79 That is not bad at all to treat yourself for a whole year of hard work. Thanks for the info and I appreciate the offer of help Amy. May take you up on that! :)
