As a photographer, hobbyist, professional, amateur or what have you, what is your biggest or hardest subject you've ever encounter and how'd you faced it :)
Ok mine is, NewYork City! I've always dreamed to live here which I attained. It's a very nice city and you may say a "Photographer's haven" as others would say.
I love how the city is ever changing! For me up to now, it's my biggest subject yet!
Not on the same level as New York City. There is an old burned down farmhouse near me. The whole property has gone to ruin. It is beauiful and sad. I wanted to photograph it for more than a year before I went. I have now been twice. I have not been able to capture the feel of it on film. My first adventure produced a picture of a tractor and my second a wagon wheel. The house eludes me.
I've been fortunate enough to have taken two trips to NYC / Washington DC in the last few years. The shots I have taken there are among my favorites!
Right now, my next project is to try Urban Exploration. But as I'm not much of a law-breaker, the challenge is permission. But I will make it happen. :-)
I spent the first 37 years of my life on Long Island. Spent a LOT of time in NYC. Then I moved to Florida. The irony being, I wasn't into photography when I lived in NY, so I missed all those photo ops.
My urbex shots where the most challenging also.
A huge deserted power plant, on my own climbing through windows and down dark hallways to find these stairs.
And the very, very creepy deserted mental institution, again climbing through windows into the dark.
I'm heading to Cuba and NYC at the end of the year and I'm already quite daunted. I'm going to try to use it as a street photography boot camp.
Other than that, I spent 3 weeks driving the ring road of Iceland a few years ago. Biggest challenge was trying to find time to put the camera down! There's always a feeling of missed opportunity though as I was shooting with the kit lens and really didn't know much about SLRs...would love to go back and try it again.
For me its a bit different - I normally "play safe" and take pictures, incl HDR, of inanimate landscapes or structures (though they are gorgeous). I find it really hard to take porttraits well, especially of my family. Here is one from last week of my 16 year old daughter which i think worked reasonably well (she hates it of course). Any advice welcome.
Taking photos of myself is always challenging as I have the same high exceptions as if I was taking photos of someone else but from behind the camera I can direct, where in front of the camera I cant see so I have to look through my minds eye.
The hardest photo I have ever taken will be posted on Saturday. So I cannot give anything away just yet.... you will need to check my project in around 48 hours to find out why.
Being a beginner, I've not tried to do any 'big' subjects, but I seem to struggle taking good pictures of my horse. She always moves around and doesn't seem to stand still for long. :( I am sticking to flowers mainly whilst learning to use my camera :p
@wardie What? She hates it? I think she looks gorgeous, and in 20 years from now she will wonder what was I thinking? I was completely stunning and didn't see it.
@wardie It is truly beautiful. I was often the same when I was younger always criticizing myself...now I look back at those photos and WISH I was still that hot ha ha....You don't know what you got till it's gone ;)
@wardie I too am most comfortable with inanimate objects. My first "shoot" with good friends went ok, but I was so scared I wouldn't get anything good. Something I need to tackle if I intend to do more.
@wardie wow! this is really nice! and she's beautiful too :)
My advice would be if your dealing with people, chat with them a little bit make them comfortable with you :) Try not to be stiff and all will go well!
Mine is I've been here for about 2 months already but still I can't capture NYC the way I see it on movies. But still trying my best! :)
My goal is, in about 4-6months I can cover every bit of NYC :) I
