Stumbled across this article on Facebook today and it made me wonder if someone would actually scam a company just to get a few free items. But it doesn't surprise me that things like this are happening these days and thats why I choose to shop locally when it comes to cameras and lenses!
@demmie That's what I thought myself. Who would actually order a camera from a company that knows nothing about cameras or equipment and that over the phone.
@tanja_1211 haha and after this stunt i doubt anyone would trust to by other brands from there....i wonder if they sell other branded computers on there too lol
I smell a hoax. Nice way to scam expensive cameras from Dell I guess. The more closely I look at the photos and after the 3rd reading of the "story", I'm convinced the guy is scamming Dell.
@jsw0109 I was thinking the same thing after reading and it doesn't surprise me at all these days. Maybe the second time he should of made a video instead of just photos of the un-boxing. If it really is a hoax he got 2 cameras and his money back.
@lstasel Thanks Laura, I wasn't sure but I don't think they would sell any other computer brands than their own. But I do think it is odd that they sell other brand electronics.
@tanja_1211 Dell has sold other vendors electronics for years. They started out with monitors and moved on to the other items. In today's retail market if your assortment is too narrow you will not survive.
@lstasel I really did not know that and totally see the point of it. It's hard to make money when you have Amazon that sells pretty much anything imaginable.
I am in the market for a new camera, and sadly, we don't have any local camera stores anymore... just the big box type stores... their very limited cameras on display are attached to cables for anti-theft reasons and I can't even tell how it would really feel in my hand, or what the actual weight is... so frustrating. I sure do miss being able to shop locally... allows scammers to flourish!
@calm Unfortunately due to big box stores and the economy a lot of the smaller locally owned stores had to close down. It is very frustrating to see items that you can't really test because they are strapped down or broken because most people don't care. Luckily we have 3 large locally owned camera stores and if I really have to I can order through them online but I much prefer to test and look at everything before I buy.
@jsw0109 I smell a scam also.
