I tell ya I just don't get this Banksy hysteria. Yes some of his work is irreverent and humorus, but its mostly simple silhouettes that get tagged over pretty fast. I don't know, when he did the Nazi painting (which sold for 600K) and made off handed dis about 9/11), I say good riddence his October in NYC is over!

@michaelelliott Not to start anything, but he didn't really dis 9/11 he made a comment about not liking the design for the building, and saying that it looks like something made in Canada, which could also be taken as satire because the top of the building was built in Canada. The Nazi painting is very much in line with his other political/social satirical works, and the painting was donated to raise money for the homeless living with Aids/HIV. Like him or not, he is an interesting study. He is a person who could be one of the richest living artists, but instead chooses to be anonymous. I am not saying that he is the most gifted street artist, but I personally find him quite interesting.

I am not really trying to defend him or his art, I just think that your characterization of Banksy is a little misleading.

@steampowered I also don't get the Banksy hype and hysteria. The other day, I walked past one of his pieces (the building's landlord covered it with plexiglas so it won't be destroyed) and I wasn't even moved to take a photo. Maybe I'm so m'eh about Banksy because he seems to be so gimmicky.

Thanks for the share Paul. I had only a little idea of whom Banksy was and I had little care factor. But there was some interesting stuff there, but I liked the shot of the kids getting sconned by the mallet and the little cute girl under the bridge.

Oh. My. God! I heart this guy so much I might just Banksy myself! Ooop... too late!

I do like a lot of his work and how he makes statements through art. That said, I do think it's over-hyped.

And @soren , I really like it when people lead off with "I'm not trying to start something, but..." makes me reach for my popcorn! LOL

@grizzlysghost - hahaha thats funny Aaron. But I like @soren too much to fight ;) besides perhaps I came off a bit strong towards Banksy. But yeah the hype was ridiculous.

I often don't get or like the great works of art that so many just love. I remember standing in the Louvre in Paris feeling totally disappointed at the dark, little painting that was drawing a huge crowd. I really thought the Mona Lisa would be much bigger and more impressive in person. While I find some of Banksy's stuff kind of interesting, I just find most of it to be more litter on the streets of the city....but, I'm not much of a city person. I like to visit the city once in a while, but I couldn't live there or visit too often.
