Ok guys - i've had a lot of questions and inqueries about how i shoot indoor macros. One of the best things I've done for myself is build a Light Tent!
They're simple and yet soo effective.
Like having a mini studio.
It's taught me a lot about lighting and how to position things.
I highly recommend building one :)
They're straight forward to make and super cheap. Think it cost me all of $5. You can make them different sizes and try different techniques that work for you but HERE are the basic instructions for how to make one if you're interested......
I'm no expert but a few things i've shot with it can be viewed here, here, here, and here
That is way cool, thanks Sarah. Just gotta wait for the UPS man to get a box (maybe I could order something big and get a box as well, now what piece of photography equipment would require a big box? )
Great idea. thanks for sharing it
lol....
not much comes in big boxes with camera stuff ;) the one i used was a big rectangular shipping box from my office. it actually works way better if it's square (even it it's a little smaller) - gotta make myself another one someday..
you're so welcome! i was amazed at how easy it was once i got started. little ol me built it all by my lonesome???
Thanks Sarah I started making one last weekend my dad works for a corrugated company and made me a costume box.... Now because of your article I know what to cover the sides with thank you very much :-)
Thanks so much Sarah! I plan to get started making one this weekend. Can't wait! This is why I'm doing this project - to learn from those that are so good at it!
i also need to buy more lights nathy :S mine are SOOO ghetto haha
but they work alright...
so glad you're enjoying your project though!!
hey steve! that's pretty good considering!
i'm impressed! super easy to build a diy light tent - give it a try! looking forward to seeing your results :)
OK so, back OT: I've got the 'light tent' made, but the 'lights' themselves are causing some issues. I bought a couple of £5 halogen desk lamps but they cast shadows from the fabric, and if I double layer the fabric it's not very bright in there.
What sort of light bulbs should one be using in this, do you think?
I tried to build one before finding any instructions, it works just ok. I'm getting mixed results with it but I think that's my lights more than the tent construction. Thanks for posting this, I'm going to use it to fine tune mine!
