365er Event

September 2nd, 2016
This is my first Discussion Post - so apologies if I do something wrong here...

I just wanted to ask if 365 have ever hosted/organised a meet and greet event for 365ers to meet up?

I know that some who follow each other have met up, but wondered if anything had been done on more of a countrywide basis?

There are sometimes things you'd like to ask or share with 365ers that are appropriate to put in a post and handing out contact details doesn't always feel the right thing to do.

It's fun to meet up and see those you've got to know and may also be an opportunity to buy prints/canvas's etc. from each other (or indeed sell them to the public).

Any thoughts on this?

In the past, there have been occasional threads of "where are you from" that have resulted in making connections with "locals" and some who travel to a place have posted that they are interesting in meeting locals but I don't personally know of any meet ups other than those who follow each other and realize they are locals. Sounds like a good idea though.

There have been uk meets in london, and groups in australia have met. As this site is used world wide there isnt going to be one big meet. Try saying where you live and see who else might like to meet you.

Nothing officially organised by Ross, no. But we used to organise meet-ups amongst ourselves, if there were several users who lived in the same sort-of area, quite a few years back. Not sure if this still happens, or not.

As others have said, it usually stems from people living in the same area, people who are traveling to an area and meet up with 365ers who live there (e.g., I visited 365ers in Brisbane which was a wonderful way to see an area and also feel like you are doing this with your friends). On another site (MeetUp groups in Chicago), I've seen people post particular events -- e.g., a county fair, or coming up in Chicago is the Chicago Architectural Foundation Open House. A few years ago, @jyokota hosted a trip to Japan and made it available to folks on 365 if they were interested, but it was not a 365 event. It takes someone willing to do the organization as it isn't likely to be practical for Ross or anyone outside the area to do so.

I am in Taupo, NZ and have had two overseas visitors who I follow and they follow me make a point of coming to my town to meet. Also have met two who live an hour away. Still trying to meet up with others further afield. Very positive and blessed experience.

There is a group of us who meet in Brisbane, Australia. If anyone we follow mentions that they are coming to Brisbane, we make a point of meeting up with them and going on a photowalk. If you want to meet people in your area, it id definitely worth starting a discussion stating where you are, and asking if anyone visits there or lives close. I have met about 15 people through 365, and they are all lovely.

@888rachel @taffy @manek43509 @newbank Thank you for your comments - however I wasn't really wanting something local - was more thinking of something on a 'national' level as mentioned in my discussion. I like to shoot all over the country (& world) and many of my followers and friends are not from around this area - by choice.

It's possible that only @jyokota & I are alike in wanting something like that. I'd be up for trying to help organise one if it was ever wanted.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

@888rachel @andreajoy I joined 365 after I'd visited both Brisbane and Taupo, so just missed out on meeting you!

@cottiac I suspect many of us share your interest. there are a few ways a trip would happen (non-local). For example, when Junko set up the Japan trip (a fundraiser for a local high school's Japanese program that she and a colleague were putting together for a small group), she simply posted it on the discussion thread and then people could follow up. The trip was great, but it turns out only she and I were the ones from 365 to go. A second example is a group from England and a few from other places in the US decided to do a meetup in Chicago. There were about 10 of us total, with three serving as local hosts.
I think if you were up for leading or organizing a 365 photo trip, reaching out to your followers and friends is the first step. A second step, as others suggested, is to post your interest in the Discussion thread as you did here, but with perhaps a specific destination in mind and see if there are others who would share your interest.
I think what we were saying above is that 365 has been a great way to travel and photograph with others who are 365 friends. You just have to take the first step to start organizing it. There is no formal structure with some responsible for setting these up, but there are several examples where 365ers have met locally and internationally.

@cottiac
That becomes exponentially harder to organise, though. And people become less and less likely to actually turn up…

@cottiac Hi, depends where you live. Not sure there has ever been a national meet. I have arranged meets in London and attended one in Cambridge. Others have travelled to Chicago to meet other 365'ers. You can always ask for interest on a discussion post and see what happens following that. A meet is not that hard to arrange or host.
Hope this helps
