Hi all. I am new to digital photography (1 year) and am getting to the point of upgrading to a DSLR from my P&S (Canon SX10). I just finished reading "Understanding Exposure," which really helped me a lot with my manual mode, and now I am looking for a decent Composition resource with examples. Does anyone know of a book, site, blog, article that would help? A trip through Barnes and Noble did not help, and a peruse of Amazon yielded too big a list. Help!
I highly recommend The Digital Photography Book, by Scott Kelby. This is a 3 book series that is really just a recipe book. They are all very easy reads and the information is easy to absorb. Also recommend anything by Joe McNally. He is one of the best. Good luck
I like art shows, support some local artist and go and really look at the ones you like. Go with friends and talk about the pieces, look at colour, focus, comp... try everything from local colleges to group pro competitions. You might learn something, and at worse if you go on opening nights, you will get free wine and cheese...
@rainesfreeman@hjvanriper The books by Scott Kelby are okay and good for beginners, but they're more about how to use your camera (tips and tricks) instead of the fundamentals of good composition.
