@jogtrot others may have more wisdom than me on this but if I'm not sure, I then search using the 'tag' option with the tag I've used to see if my image comes up. Browse under 'tag' and type your tag in to see if your image comes up. Hope that helps.
what @ditdatdot said... also, when you are on your project page you can click on the tag and see if it takes you to the page where other photos are similarly tagged...
In the beginning, I tag single words then comma space, then double words in parenthesis then comma space.
eg. fence, house, bricks, "red door", "front mat"
