Your favorite Texas landmarks to photograph

March 12th, 2011
Summer is looming, and what better time to traverse Texas than when the temperatures are spiking into the 100s? Okay, I know that doesn't sound TOO enticing to most of you, but that's the reality. As I was browsing through albums yesterday, a post from @superdex of her son looking out a window of the San Jacinto monument got me curious about favorite landmarks in Texas.

Of course we all love the Alamo, don't we? But I've seen it a number of times now. And while I never get tired of visiting San Antonio - where else might you send me? Oh, and if you do visit San Antonio, don't forget to visit the OTHER missions, aside from the Alamo. The history is great and the photo ops are wonderful!

Happy photographing!

Without loading too many photographs to mention I never get tired of taking or seeing: Blue Bonnets, UT Tower, Enchanted Rock, Shiner Brewery, Missions in San Antonio with San Jose being my favorite, and Perdenales Falls.

@brumbe The Shiner Brewery is a great idea. We didn't get there last time we were in the area. I probably would have lost hubby in the "samples" section LOL. Of the SA Missions, I think Espada may be my fave. I'm not sure where Perdenales Falls is, but will look it up - thanks for the ideas!

Texas has some great old courthouses!

Perdenales Falls is on the back road from Enchanted Rock to Austin by way of getting a bit lost. Well worth the journey though. I only get to Texas about every other year, but Austin is the City of my Heart.

@Kyle, I did a project on the courthouse towns of Central Texas in grad school. They are some of the best architecture around.

@brumbe thereis a great book I have called Historic Texas Courthouses by Michael Andrews...breath taking look at all the different architecture, shows all kinds of influence in Texas...I am lucky enough to live with in walking distance of one of the most photograghed courthouses in Ellis County - Waxahachie TX.....I only have 3 courthouses in my project so far....

@kylec You are definitely right about the courthouses! I believe I have a cute pic of my girl scout troop with the courthouse in Corsicana behind them. The old courthouses that are the center of the small-town squares are so great. Thanks for posting the book recommendation as well!

@mpoarch Mary - thanks for the ideas and the link! I found the "favorite locales" section on the site and will definitely use that as a resource. Thank you!
