Feed Back Please

I worked very hard on this image today. I would love some feed back.
Fire Starter

I can tell you it is real fire in my hand. Though I sustained no injuries from this shot ( I liken it to holding one of those gas station cups of coffee that have the really thin cardboard cups very hot but no burns.) I do not recommend trying this at home.

Awesome self portrait. It would be cool if you can play around with your lighting and illuminate one side of your body and the other side darker (left side) since the fire is in that hand. More like a profile/silhouette shot. It's an awesome photo no doubt! Just a suggestion for you to play around with! Bravo!

@snaggleture I had tried that but my eyes and face were not lit enough that way. I really wanted my eyes to show very well. That I accomplished. I did have just the one light from one side for this image but still lost most of the low key effect.

Okay I see, thats great you actually tried it though. Still an awesome shot though!

great selfie, i really like the intense look on your face, it goes perfectly with the title! the concept and the fact that you have fire in your hand is very cool. there is something about the way your hair is laying that for me makes it seem a little off or maybe it's not your hair, but the way your body is turned.
i envy your creativity!!

@shuterfly cool idea. :)

Things I would of changed

Turned your body more so your right shoulder was back further. In effect making your right side darker.
Put your hair on the other side of your face to put my light on that side.
Move the flash a little bit further back.
I think I might of also found some way to put some light on the back of your head to give you some shape.

All in all a great shot, and you must tell me how you did do the flame. :)

Feels like the focus is on your face and not the flame - I almost didn't notice it. Cool effect, though. :)

Intense but awesome shot! I like @agima 's suggestions with the hair and back lighting to bring the top of your head out of the shadow/dark. Very creative- and truly magical with the flame!

@beautifulthing Yes, that's my reaction as well.

First let me say thank you so much for the constructive criticism. It was very helpful. I went ahead and re-shot trying to keep most of what said in mind. So here is
Fire Starter (revisited)

@agima I will tell how but I do not recommend anyone try this at home. I am too afraid someone will get hurt. It is real fire in my own hand. Again going back to lighter fluid. It burns fast so it doesn't get too hot, I used a small (and I do mean small) amount of fluid on my palm, set self timer and ignite it when the camera starts to click (or remote shutter that I don't have would work.) Again I can't recommend trying this.

@shuterfly I must say this is a huge improvement over the first image, so well done.

How do you think it turned out?
January 7th, 2012
@agima Need to bring camera back up looking down to get a more intense look like the first, and get hand up and closer so I can zoom in just a bit closer. Over all like the lighting in this one a lot more, and like the choice of red shirt over the other.

Awesome, nice take!

What a wonderfull imagination you have.love both photo's, Can't say which I prefer

@shuterfly , oh yes, this is fabulous!!

I think the second picture is much more powerful, because the empty dark space creates something that the first picture did not have. Great job rethinking and coming up with something much better!
