How far do you like to push the processing ?

This is a picture of a tree in my garden, taken in almost total darkness on my Nikon D5300 a shutter speed of about 5" and ISO 1600. I've pushed the processing to the limits.. I think it worked, thoughts?

I think it works very nicely. I'm all for processing the heck out of things sometimes - just to see what they become.

I like processing. I love photos that look like they did in real life, but I also love to make them look like I wished they looked in real life :)

This is pretty cool - almost like an infrared shot. Have you played with any infrared shooting or trying to make things look that way before? Green becomes white and everything looks like snow. It's lovely!

over processing is a time honoured tradition and is often referred to as etsooi - meaning to edit the $h!t out of it ;p personally, i am forever editing things into submission - realism is cool, but rarely for me :)

so i say go for it... i like the end result you've achieved here with the ghostly white detail of the branches and the textured background... it looks a bit like lungs, and you could say this has some allegorical flair to it

I like the final product and as an artist, I love the creative process. So I say, go for it. Fav

The correct answer is, only just enough. The problem is that this is different for everyone.

@hippiechick13 @trinda @stacypie @northy thank you for your very helpful and interesting thoughts I will take all of that on board. :-)

while i dont have a problem with editing to get an image how you want it - I do believe that IF you're going to edit, you should edit to remove / adjust things that just throw the image off.

For example what looks to be an electrical line going diagonally top right / bottom left is actually one of the brightest lines in the image (and the darkest when it goes to black on the bottom). The straightness of this is kind of destroying the natural curves of the image.

@toast haha!! Yes indeed without that I'd have no power!! When you live in the middle of a field, electricity is kind of important!!! ;-)

@paulty you bet.. time to try the old cloning tool out mate ;)

Nicely done! I really like the red tones in your background, the contrast nicely with the whites and grays of the trees. I would even say it would work nicely blown up and in a frame as artwork for a home or office =)
