Requesting Input

February 1st, 2014
I took this shot tonight and something just doesn't seem right about it but I can't quite put my thumb on it. What do you all think about it?

I like it! But for me, there is just too much black in the foreground. My favorite part is the upper right. I would try cropping up towards that corner to see if you can frame the subject in a more dramatic way. If you were to take it again, I would try to get in closer and also try to get more of an angle on the bridge to lead the viewer in to the frame. Just my two cents... I'm still learning too, so take that with a grain of salt!! :)

Rule of thirds is off, and for a minimal subject shot like this, it's the most important rule. You need more foreground or more sky. But I like it :)

I'm far from expert but there is too much empty foreground for my liking.

Thank you for the input everyone. I'll go back and try it again another night and try using a different angle and hopefully make this into a good shot.

It's really rather gorgeous but my eye is crying out for "rule of thirds" . There's nearly fifty percent black at the bottom of the shot.

Agree with everyone above talking about rule of thirds. I'd try to shoot again with the bridge lined up with the bottom 3rd of the screen. The water tower feels a bit claustrophobic crammed up against the top.

Too much foreground...would have put more dark on top....the water tower just doesn't sit right to me...to high up the photo.

Balance. Too much foreground, too clipped at the top. Not much you can do about it now, although you could try cropping some of the foreground and a little on the lefthand side.

you could take it into a panorama 2:1 or 3:1 framing - and lose most of that black foreground - see if you can get near the rule of thirds that way

Echoing others, I think it would make a great panoramic shot. For me there is too much dead space in the bottom half. Try cropping it,
