The Critique-Game

December 16th, 2010
So this is a game intended to boost 365'ers confidence and help improve our photos. What you have to do is look at the LAST person to comment.
- Click on them and look at their MOST RECENT photograph.
- Scroll down to where it says share, copy the image link onto your reply to this game. (This is so everyone else can see the photo which you've commented on as well)
- Then write one thing which you like about the photo and one piece of constructive criticism (how you think the photo could be improved/what you think is slightly wrong with it etc.)

If someone starts by looking at my most recent photo and commenting/giving the constructive criticism the game can begin!

LOVE the DOF
Would have been a stronger image if you cropped a little different. LOOSE the person on the extreme left and have the bottom of the thingy in the far right

Your nails rock ! :D And you do have beautiful hands !
But in my opinion it would of been better if it wasn't taken in a car though. Maybe a different background.

Love the composition and the subject is neat. Glass with colours is always cool looking. I'm wondering if the lighting could be less flat? I'd love to see this on a black background, or with more reflection/shine on the glass. :)
Be gentle!

What a neat idea!! I really love this thread.

Kyla this is a really great picture in my eyes. the dof is beautiful... I am usually a big fan of color, but the neutral tones really work in this picture. The contrast is excellent and I like how your watermark/signature isn't distracting. The only thing I can really critique on (and that is if I look really close) is to maybe watch your ISO or whatever caused the graininess... but like I said, thats HARDLY noticable and I only say that because I needed to find SOMETHING to critique on :)

Nice and a the same time a difficult subject to capture ... I would like less dof - try it in f6 to give little more distinction to the shepherds in the background ... disturbing shadows around the outside edges ... my son says a red background would have the white figurines pop out ... perhaps from a little higher to cut out the roundness of the table ...

Wow. I love this and am reluctant to say anything, but...
It would be interesting to see a bit more cropped off the top and bottom. It might make the "spray" more prevalent and dramatic.

I really think your lighting is great here, those colors are so vivid and crisp! The only thing at all is maybe to make the photo less busy: bring in the composition tighter on the rack you wanted to be the focal point. I'm glad I found you!! Im following you now!

This is Amy's last photo and I love it because it looks like it came straight from the movie "Chronicles of Nardia".
Can't say I don't like any thing about it because I am not that good of a photographer - yet!
December 17th, 2010

I know it's the same picture above me, but Amy leaves great comments!!

I'm absolutely obsessed with this shot, the color in it are just magical to say the least. Zero criticism, in my mind it's perfect because I aspire to take a shot like this!!!

HEY people, Lauren Dahlhauser and Sheila M Chin are SKIPPED.
Don`t forget about them.
December 17th, 2010
i'll do both :))

lauren's most recent -- funny photo lauren, you're very good at the eye shots for sure, but maybe i would have kept going until you got one with the eyebrow all in focus, your others are perfect :) but on this one my eyes keep being drawn to the blur :)

and sheila's most recent -- this is a lovely photo, and of course nice for this time of year, hard to criticize actually when its Christmas time lol, but i know you like using frames etc and it is nice, but ... sorry, i was just thinking that if this had more background showing that maybe we could see that it was from a yard display, its just hard to tell the size etc without any background or foreground, if you get me. i'm usually quite vocal about NOT adding frames and text etc, but this isn't just my preferences speaking, i really couldn't tell the size. but once i read it i could imagine it etc :))

December 17th, 2010
there.. ^__^ it's all good now.. am the last... =p

Like the flare on this one, but I'm not sure about the window it's dirty and I wonder if it distracts or add interest. If only, make the shades all straigt, remove the smudge on the right upper half.

I like the shot - it's a nice scene.

Two things to comment on:-

- The reflections of the lights...a little distracting.
- The colour cast doesn't feel right.

Getting the lens right up to the glass can get rid of the reflections. Getting the colours right can be a bit more difficult, especially, as seems to be the case here, it's a bit dim outside.

@spaceman - aw, thanks!! :)

@nodecaff
What I like - Great color in the shot and a really interesting way of incorporating the sun flare.

What I don't like - There is nothing major that I would change, i think i would likely have cropped the grass out of the photo.

Overall a really nice image.

Very interesting subject matter, however I might have tried a different angle so that there's not any distracting houses in the background.

December 18th, 2010

The colors of it are pretty cool, even though there are not that many. I don't really see anything wrong with it.... Nice shot!
December 18th, 2010

pretty duck..(: hmmm i guess the focus could be better, idkk... but other then that.. its pretty snazzy :D
December 18th, 2010

Congratulations at giving a collage a shot; it's not something i've tried yet!
I guess the photos are pretty personal to you so dificult to critique - maybe would have tried to get rid of the line where the floor meets the wall in the first shot (maybe a photoshop blur or take the shot at a different angle). As the common theme is your funky knee-high socks, i might have made more of a play of them especially in the second shot. Good clarity and defintion in the people shots tho'.

I really like this scene. You captured the "decisive moment"! I love how the sun is just peeking out from the trees!
If you edited this, you could make a few changes with the balance/contrast! But other than that it's pretty cute & i reccommend you enter this to your local newspaper! Or on a more public place to show your fam & friends your talent! :)

I'm the same, when my zipper breaks, they just retire to house pants :] But I think the brightness could've been taken down a little bit. The bottom half of the picture seems blown out.
Viva la worn out pants!
December 20th, 2010

great portrait! I know how hard it is to get everybody right at the same time. haha. Don't see anything wrong with the pic.
December 20th, 2010

This is a beautiful picture. The only slight problem I have with it is with the darker parts of the photo, but the bright colors are beautiful!

@saracore

What I like - A very cool, original photo, of a subject that isn't common. All in all an original shot which is very cool to see.

What I would change - I think i would have composed the shot so that only the front cup was in view, i find the one in the background with the black lettering to be slightly distracting - specifically the black lettering which stands out so strongly.

Nice shot, Ross. I like the flare. I can't see anything I would change.

@jjsooner - thanks for the compliment :)
