HDR, am I doing it OK?

July 20th, 2011
This is my very first HDR photo and I am pretty proud about it :P
However, I am aware that there is always room for improvement. I tried to light it up a little bit, but it just looked weird.

You should really check out this page

The tutorial is great and the creator is pretty good at explaining the process.

@picturelover101 Did that photo need HDR treatment? I bet it might also look great without it. Nice texture

@dmortega You are welcome. Enjoy!

Thanks for the link. I will have to check that out as I am still new to HDR too. Just did one yesterday that I was excited about...

a very good first attempt, I admit that I am a bit of an HDR junkie :) I have found that to get the best HDR pics you need a subject that has a high contrast between highlight and shadows so you may find a scene that is evenly lit does not work as well as one that has dark shadows and bright highlights, heres a couple of mine

@egad Wonderful colors!

@asrai I also read about that in the tutorial.
"Consider those situations where there is extreme light and extreme dark, and how you are able to see it when you are there in real life, but you just know if you take a photo of it that it won’t come out right."

@andrebarrande i really like it, it looks dark/stormy and moody. nice first attempt!

@asrai those photos just remind me why I love your style, they are all beautiful and i am off to fav :D

Looks great to me, only the tree is a bit dark. Did you do that manually or by adding HDR in Photoshop?
July 20th, 2011
@jannaellen I used a portable version of Photomatix and then correct some things I didn't like with Photoshop. I did try to light up that tree, but it just didn't was to be lighted up haha

I don't know how to do this. This is my kind of HDR-ish attempt with Picnik

this is one of my favs that i have shot

July 20th, 2011
Oh wow, I just came here to say all these pictures posted on here are gorgeous!

here's one from last night and one from earlier in the year. For me it's about getting the light right in the starting shots - this helps reduce halos and funny shadows...

Good start! Like others, I try to take my HDR photos outside with high contrast between light and dark.

The 2 pictures on the right hand side of the collage were HDR and were taken at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.

cool for first attempt, processing in Photomatix is the first step in HDR, you need to process them in photoshop or elements to attain more natural or artistic look.
i love doing HDR, most of my landscapes are processed in HDR!
