I started with this goal last year and didn't even make it a full 2 months. During that time I started following some wonderful fellow 365ers that were mainly doing self portraits. I found it to be a great source of inspiration and the connections were great. Now a year later I am attempting to do a 365 of mainly selfless again. There is often a rawness that comes with selfies that I can't help but love. Who else is doing mainly self portraits this year?
Well it is interesting.. Normally I don't do them, not because I dont' like being in front of the camera, its just that I like being behind the camera more.
However as you can see from my project, I do have a few selfies and as I enjoyed doing them and I have the equipment, I might find that I am doing them more and more.
I lack time, so as a result many of my photos are selfies, and i find them to be a great way to express yourself. I try to make mine very personal (even if i dont explain what they mean).
I'm dong one a month which becomes my profile picture. It's not easy but it's good practice to get comfortable in front of the camera. I hear a lot, from other photographers, how they hate their picture being taken and watch them do whatever they can to stay away from the camera themselves. It seems odd to me coming from them. I feel if we can be comfortable then we can help others to be comfortable in front of the camera, too. That will make our photos better.
@dmortega I also hate to have my picture taken. But when I'm doing it, it makes a world of difference. I guess it's the control aspect. Doing several self portraits last year really helped me relate better to my portrait clients.
@foursides --- Wanna learn how to give up some control? Teach a teenager to drive. Ha! I've never felt more panic then when I was teaching my kids to drive. I do understand the issue with others taking picture of you. I feel the same. My daughter always, and I mean always, looks for the most bizzare moments to take my picture. My husband has no clue how to look at me to find a good side. My husband is getting better because we are taking pictures together so there is hope for him. But my daughter .... well she walks to a different beat. Hahaha!!! At least she is consistant with my pictures. Someday someone will find them and think I was a lunatic. Hmmm .... maybe I am. ;-)
