New 365er's reviews?

January 17th, 2012
ok so all the new 365er's have been here a good bit now! i would like to know what you think about the whole experience so far? anything you don't like? any questions needing clarified?
January 17th, 2012
So far (17 shots in) I am still enjoying myself. Taking my camera everywhere. Folks leave nice comments, I try to do the same. The whole experience is helping me to stretch my photographic skills, certainly in terms of composition if not technically. Find some of the professional photos a bit intimidating, but then that might be me.
Overall 9/10 as I can't seem to search for photos by keyword, only by those tags which are on the browse tag page. Am I looking in the wrong place?
:)
January 17th, 2012
I love itt! On my first day somebody commented on my work, I wasn't expecting that, everybody is so friendly and they give really good feedback :) There is so much talent on here, it's amazing.
January 17th, 2012
Loving it so far! Such a positive place with absolutely amazing people!
January 17th, 2012
@calx up in the corner there is a search box. you can type in any word. you can search in discussions, users, or pictures. so say you types in "frog" you can looks through discussions with the word frog in it, or you can click the photo tab, and look for photos that people have tagged with frog or mentioned frog in the description.

@tabithasyear yeah thats what i love about the new faces tab under the browse section. people here are ALWAYS looks for new people to follow and be inspired by!

@mstipe i am glad you are enjoying it. its a great community and a great way to learn tips and tricks to get things done!
January 17th, 2012
WOW, nothing but positve reviews from me! Love that I found this site. I am just beginning with a new camera and lenses that i got for Christmas and oh do I have a lot to learn. This will be a great venue for me to grow in my photography experiences and knowlege. Love the fact that is makes me want to take my camera with me every place I go and that I am continually looking for fun, unique and enteresting photo ops. I am still trying to navigate and figure out what is avail. to me with the ace membership and not sure I know how to use everthing. Very cool to have such a huge collection of photographers to look to for info and and inspiration.
January 17th, 2012
It too am really loving it. It's my first bash at photography, so am amazed to have such lovely positive things said. I think it's a great community to be part of. Found everyone to be really friendly!
I agree @calx some of the photographs are SO amazing it does feel intimidating. But you never know one day ;)
Amanda @gidders1
January 17th, 2012
I'm having a lot of fun. I really need to stretch out and do more styles of photos, but I figure it will come with time and during days when I have more options for pictures. I've already had a day where I was torn between two pictures I wanted to upload.
January 17th, 2012
I don't know what is considered 'new' but I only have 122 photos and haven't really found my way around the site yet. I love this site. I actually started around 1 Jan last year, so 1 Jan this year 'should' have been my finish, but I took a hiatus until I was able to upgrade my camera :) I'm back now and feel like a newbie. Anyway, I love this site. I have not asked for specific help on my photos, but I have seen feedback for others, and even when I do indicate that I am not sure about something, someone always pops in with advice. It's always challenging and inspiring. And right, intimidating :)
January 17th, 2012
@shirljess i am hoping to get my first DSLR soon! how is the Ace membership? i've yet to get it! i've heard you get to see all yours stats, so that will be fun to watch your stats evolve as you grow.

@theanamumdiary i do agree, it is a bit intimidating even for me! but it is a great photography, and you will find yourself grow as a person and as a photographer, in the beginning i didn't really have a knack, but as i sent i slowly began to understand a get the hang of it. i look forward to watching you grow :)
January 17th, 2012
I love it! I thought I would enjoy posting pictures the most but I have really loved looking at everyone's pictures. The discussions are wonderful and I have learned a lot that I couldn't have from a book. The comments are so reaffirming. It makes me want to do better each day.
January 17th, 2012
So far so good. I've found a lot of inspiration here, and picked up a few tips to help me with my work. I can see that there is an amazing treasure trove of information. And on the me-and-my-camera side, knowing that I will be posting here at the end of the day has made me be a bit more aware of the world around me when I'm out and about.
January 17th, 2012
Im having fun with the project itself and I love looking at everyones photos. I think everyone is really talented. Personally I feel that more people look at my photos and comment on them in the Flickr groups and forums.
January 17th, 2012
This is day 17 for me and I love it. It's nice the comments that I am getting on my photographs and I just love looking at everyone elses' pictures.
January 17th, 2012
The only complaint from me is the Popular Page, tends to have the same picture up for a long time, and/or the same peoples work up. I know a few days ago one person had 3 images on the PP at the same time. There are a lot of worthy people here and I'm shocked to find that they don't have a lot of followers, or for some reason aren't on that page. I just think it would be nice if there was some variety to it so we can get to know a little of everyone! Otherwise LOVE this site.
January 17th, 2012
@krissym don't worry kristine! once you get some followers things will pick up. it is hard sometimes to get followers. i myself have never reached 80! but i am definitely working on it.

@copperheadglass i know the feeling. i love getting comments and good support. it makes you want to be better for your followers.

@lissamc it is crazy the amount of knowledhe that lurks around here with some people. the few people who have been here since forever have some good knowledge!

@sharritta i am glad you are enjoying it!
January 17th, 2012
@ariananeala the PP is always a bit controversial. it's kind of luck of the draw. i've only ever had 1 photo on the PP ever. and i've been around almost a year, i think it depends on the amount of fav's vs the amount of views the photo gets as well as luck, however usually there is a thread that goes through that people post up for the week on what they think SHOULD have made it to the popular page but didn't. keep an eye out for that thread. thats where you see the photos that should have been up. you may see your own photo. or you can post someone else that you think would have made it to the popular page if the monkies hadn't of been so picky :P
January 17th, 2012
@lilkitty90 I am loving this site - only been on here 17 days, and I agree with a lot of the previous posters - I did a 365 project on facebook last year and loved the feedback from my friends - was given a recommendation to check this site out and I haven't looked back - I signed up to be a paid member after about 5 days, and today decided to pay for the premium piknik and am loving that too.

I am loving seeing everyone's photos and kinda getting to know them, peeking into their lives, finding out more and more about their lives. Love seeing photos from people fairly nearby and from the other side of the world - am currently jealous of all the sunshine I see in lots of photos!

I have learnt so much in just this very short time, and I am already upping my game and really seeking out interesting shots.

Being an ace member can really monitor how many people look at my photos - which is very exciting too. Was lucky enough to have one of my photos on the popular page for a couple of days, which really got me some more followers and comments on my photos.

Overall just brilliant and am totally addicted already !
January 17th, 2012
@ariananeala There is a formula and luck and what the magic monkeys like that day. I usually have luck with the photos that I was not even aiming to be my best. One even made the sign in page but never made the popular page. Keep commenting on peoples photos and ask questions and you will make it. Also remember it takes most of us over 100 days to get up there since it is based on how many views you get with how many followers you have and how many favs.
January 17th, 2012
I am 11 photos in. The first few days I kept forgetting to take a pic and right before bedtime I was scrambling to fine something to take a picture of. You can tell too. But it seems now that I am trying to go out of my way to get a picture! I just hope I keep it up all year!

I am a little intimidated at times when I see everyone and all their AMAZING photos, but when you get a nice comment it just makes you want to learn more and take a better pic next time.

Also I love how everyone is from, well, everywhere. I love to travel, but have not had a chance to in a while so seeing everyone's pics from around the world makes me happy. And on the other hand, is making my future destination list extremely long!=)

I look forward to learning many more things!!
January 17th, 2012
@brumbe @lilkitty90 Thanks guys, I'm really not even talking about my pictures though. I have a lot of great followers, but a lot of the people I follow have amazing pictures that (no offense!!!!) are better than some of the pictures that end up on the PP, and they have no followers. Just doesn't seem fair =(
I haven't been on the PP, but I did end up on the new faces page. I just think there are a lot of deserving people and it shouldn't be limited to the same people all the time. It's hard to find new people that way! /end rant-still love this site =)
January 17th, 2012
I'm 13 days in and loving it so far. Considering how nuts this year has been for me so far, I'm really proud of myself for actually remembering to take a photo every day, even if it's not the most spectacular photo. It's definitely forcing me to be more creative and conceptualize new things.

I'm really in awe of some of the amazing pictures I see on here though. It's really quite humbling but also encourages me.
January 17th, 2012
I'm 17 days in and the only negative part for me has been my own limitations! As others have said, it's fairly intimidating to see the amazing photos other 365ers are capable of producing. I'm trying to take the time to think more creatively about my shots, but I'm the first to admit I've not done very well on that every day...

The social aspect of the site is really great (and the reason I signed up to this rather than just using a blog or something). The few comments I've had have been really encouraging - I just need to be less shy about commenting on others' photos and discussions.

Just one problem with the site though - I fear it's becoming a major time suck for me. I'm sure I'm spending more time on the computer looking at other people's photos than I am outside taking my own!
January 17th, 2012
17 days. I'm feeling a little underwhelmed actually. I know that it's nice to comment on other people picture in a positive manner, but I would also like to see some constructive critisism. I see lots of "Wow" and "Fabulous" on some pictures which are not bad but could be better with a litte more thought.
I would love for people to to this to my pictures. I need to work harder!

Sorry if I'm rocking the boat a little!
January 17th, 2012
Mel
Its terrible!!! I sat down this morning to google a recipe for crockpot roast pork but i decide to check my page first, then reply to comments, look at my bubble thread, get distracted looking at other pictures from people on that and before i know it its 10am and I still dont have my pork on!!! THANKFULLY im cooking it for tomorrow and not tonights dinner otherwise we wouldn't be eating til far too late!! :) LOL
BUT really I am enjoying the site, getting my camera out each day, having a think about ideas to shoot and having a play at editing. I am really looking forward to doing what another thread was on yesterday about doing reshoots a year on and seeing how much i have improved. some days are rush jobs but others i try to really think about things, long way to go yet i know, so im hoping to use this site to its full potential and have asked for critiques/suggestions on both photo and processing
January 17th, 2012
Love it :) Love the comments , love the info on how people get the shots I cant , but mostly love looking at everyones photos and travelling the world through my computer :)
January 17th, 2012
I'm really enjoying my time here with this community. I've learned a lot and have seen some amazing images.

@howiemarsh Be sure to ask for critiques when you post your pics up. people won't usually critique unless if you put it up in your post. Hope this works for you! :)

I don't usually critique cause I'm still learning myself, but I will give my .02 if asked for it.
January 17th, 2012
@lilkitty90 I do have one critisism of the site, coz it's happening right now.....when you are looking at a photo you get taken back to the top of the page, and have to scroll all the way down again....I am following quite a few people, so there are always lots of photos to look out.

It gets really annoying that you can go back to where you were (if that makes sense!)
January 17th, 2012
I too, am 17 days in and love it here. I try to follow both those who inspire me and those who are learning like me. I really like everything I see and thats the hard part. I dont mind constructive criticism at all. I am taking an online class right now to perfect some of the areas im not so good at. My goal with this project is too develop my "eye" and get better at composition.Good luck!
January 17th, 2012
It's so much fun and I love taking my camera everywhere with me! I like talking to other people and seeing how great other people's shots are. It makes me want to get better! I love it that at the end of 365 days (if I make it) I will have something to look back on and remember my life with! c:
January 17th, 2012
My bf started the project 1st Jan and nobody is following him (apart from me) and although he is enjoying the project and committed to it he feels a bit disappointed noone seems to notice his photos.
If you have time have a look at his project, he needs some encouragement. :o)

This photo for example is absolutely gorgeous or am I too partial?

January 17th, 2012
I've posted 16 shots yet and I'm really hooked on the project! I can't take a picture every day, unfortunately, because my camera is to precious to take with me everyday to my university. But when I have a day of, I'm going straight outside as fast as I can!

I'm really enjoying the pictures of all the other people around here. It is so fortifying to see all those creative and beautiful pictures. It keeps me going on.

When I get comments from people I don't know, I'm so pleased and proud! I always wonder how they get to my photo's. In my opinion they aren't that great, comparing to all the others I see here! But, every comment is welcome, so I don't complain. I hope I will get more followers during my project, as some sort of conformation for my stuff I do. But it isn't the most important. That's to having fun!
January 17th, 2012
@yogibari Oh my, that's beautiful! I'll go check it. ^^
January 17th, 2012
@sharonaddison if you hold down cltrl while clicking the picture it opens in a new window - then when you have finished with that photo, close the window and you are back to where you were. hope that makes sense
January 18th, 2012
I started on the 9th of this month. It has been great motivation from me. I have started carrying my DSLR with me more... because I don't have a P+S and my cell phone camera is not that great. I would go weeks without picking up a camera though, and now, I am taking many daily. I am looking everywhere, even though that was something I was doing before, it was always "man I wish I had a camera right now"/. now i know that i will. I am also not so worried about "having a direction" in what I am shooting. I don't have to have a project in mind necessarily, just shooting and shooting and getting better, and learning new things. I love it.

There are tons of great photographers on here as well, which provides immense amounts of inspiration. 365 is a great tool for me. thanks all!
January 18th, 2012
18th Day today!
I am loving it, loving looking through everyone's photos! My photos are not amazing as i only have access to a DSLR sometimes. but im enjoying sharing my pictures and views. I would like a few more people to follow or to be followed, maybe just a bit more conversation. But that's just me! Either way, this is an amazing project!
January 18th, 2012
well I like the rest have only been here since the beginning of the year, actually I didnt start until after that as I didnt know about the site until a few days in.

I find the sense of community and the feeling that you can get through this project as there are people here that will support you all the way through it and beyond.

I know in my short time I feel that I have made some real friends and had some very meaningful conversations and of that I thank everyone involved. :)

I am also here to learn and get inspiration, along with being on a path of self study and I hope you guys can follow me on this journey as I think it is going to be a lot of fun.

@calx That is the spirit. this is a great little community with very positive people here.

@tabithasyear Tabitha McAlpine that is because your work is fresh, especially the little stick/metal figures.

@shirljess Shirley Jess for me getting inspiration from others is what this site is all about. Without the support and comments from others I doubt I would ever make the full year. Oh I just had a look at your photos and they are wonderful. You now have a new follower. :)

@theanamumdiary Amanda @gidders1 you shouldnt let the more experienced photo intimidate you as they are and should be a chance to ask questions as to how the person took that photo. I am for am more than happy to answer any questions about my photos and I am more than willing to ask when I would like to know how someone did something. It also helps you get followers and create relationships to help you get through this.

@tamalita Tamalita May looking through you photos you live in a wonderful part of the world and I think anyone that is into nature as I am should have a look at your work. Well done.

@copperheadglass Meredith Jones Anyone that has a cattle dog as their profile pictures is worth following in my book. :)

@krissym Kristine Muller really.. Looking at your last photo of the water drop I am surprised that you don't have 100's of comments as it is fantastic...

@ashleycampbell9 Ashley Campbell I love your city scape photos they are just great. I agree, there is soo much to learn from this site.

@organicstills Natalie J I must say I do like you selection in cameras and that last photo is fantastic.

@wrongfooted Kirsty I agree on the social aspect. It is a very supportive and active group. Everyone likes to say hello everynow and then and it makes people feel all warm and fuzzy.

@howiemarsh Howie Marsh If you like I am more than happy to give you my thoughts on your photos. I generally dont do it as most people really dont want to hear it as for one a lot of people on here just to post photo, not to hear how their photo is out of focus, badly lit, etc etc. I don't think you are rocking the boat as the people I have come across while being on here are very mature and respectful of other people ideas, so say it how you see it and I am sure it will be accepted.

@kacysaur Kacy Arnold This is one of the main reason why I also chose this site and the reason to do this project. I want to look back and see the events that have passed before me over the last year. I always wanted to keep a diary but I cant write anything exciting about my days, but taking photos I can do. :)

@yogibari Barbara Baranyai What is his user name. I am happy to follow him and give him support. It is a great photo.

@dhebbs I dont personally take my camera with me as it is way to big. I will normally spend the day thinking what I will take a photo of when I get home and then I am focused to do just that. For me it makes it easier as I know I have the shot in the bag, but I always take a backup shot of something random just in case I have issues with the photo I want to take. anyone that knows me on this site would I think see me as the lighting guy as I must say I do love the lighting you did on that book a few days ago, it just looks fantastic and well thought out. So give yourself a pat on the back.

@jennverr jenn that is great to hear. I see in frames and everything I look at I know could be framed or captured in such a way that would really bring out the feeling of that thing I have just seen., Shot from the hip and enjoy the ride.

@splodge Arh just remember its not the camera but the person behind it.
January 18th, 2012
@agima Thanks a bunch for your comments! I really appreciate the encouragement!
January 18th, 2012
@agima Thanks for taking the time to look at my photos, and for deciding to follow me. Also, I think it was really nice of you to personally address almost (I didn't check to be sure) every comment made by the newbies. Cheers!
January 18th, 2012
I love that most people are very positive. So different from the negativity you find on other sites! My goal is get to the popular page one day. I'm a dreamer!
January 18th, 2012
@ashleycampbell9 ;-) No problem.

@krissym Thanks for noticing. :) Yes I addressed all the newbies and the ones I didn't I already have a relationship with and they know they are awesome. :)

@newsmebaby I am sure you will get there. Looking at bubble boy and catching air I am surprised you are not already there. :) Keep it up, its not as far away as you may think.
January 18th, 2012
@agima Thank you so much for your comment! It was a hard task, taking that picture of the book but I quite like it now. I love you're pictures, they are so funny! I follow you, now. =)
January 18th, 2012
@agima Hi Brendan! That's great! :) Thank you! His username is semiamateur. I think his photos are very good considering he just started, but he would be happy to get some critique. :)
January 18th, 2012
@sharonaddison oh definitely! i see photos of people from around the world and i am like MAN if only i could be there! or on really cold days, and aussies and such are posting photos of summer i am totally jealous! lol

@ashleycampbell9 Ashley i find it easier to think of it as your project. i personally do not take a photo everyday. some days i have days where i take 3-4 great photos. so i will just post those. soem days i have skipped as well. i like to think that it is my project, and i want to make it all my own. and people can definitely tell when my photos are forced >.> for me that photography mood swings back and forth. sometimes i am taking my camera out and getting thousands of photos a day. while others i am only getting 20.. but keep up the work and i'm sure you will grow as a photographer :)

@ariananeala the popular page is a bit rough. but i like to think i came to this site to learn and grow, and share my photography. yes being on the popular page is flattering. but the PP isn't why i joined. for others, it's a goal to set for to be on the PP or to win a challenge. but i just like sharing. i can't wait to see the photo you do take when you do make it on the Popular page!

@organicstills there are some really amazing photographers on the site and even proffesional ones. i love to look at their work as its a goal to strive to be that good.

@wrongfooted haha i was always captivated by the photos and spent HOURS going through peoples photos. from start to finish. even people who had been here a couple of years. it was crazy the amount of time. but eventually it catches up with you and you catch up with all the photos. and seeing all those photos makes great motivation to take even better photos!

@howiemarsh howie i always noticed the same thing. i love to recieve critism.. however i rarely get it. i know you can tag your photos as "critique_me" and people will find that tag and know to critique you as well as make sure you put it in the description. alot of people wont critique due to not wanting to hurt feelings or step on toes. so ask :) alot of people are willing to help. and if you look at a photographers photos and you want to know how they done something. leave a commit asking and usually they are more then happy to ablige with information.

@emjay8 haha i read the "its terrible!" part and i was like oh no! whatis wrong! haha but thats funny. i actually spent 8 hours once going through photos... whoops. another thing this site is really good for is to see what people like to see. some people like grunge type processing. or ones with lots of textures. and if you look at the PP it will kind of tell you what the trend is that people are liking at the time.

@tammeray oh yes tamma. looking at the exif info on a photo you are curious how to achieve is one of the best things ever. i love how the site provides the information on what f-stop and exposure was used and how fast the shutter speed was. it's really great to know, so you can go out and test it on your own.

@sharonaddison haha sharon that bothers me to. but someone pointed out what to do to open a totally new window. i myself am a bit to lazy to remember those keys or to even do it.. >.> so instead i do ALOT of scrolling. probably doing more work in the long run anyway.

@sheg i definitely love to follow people who are learning and watching how their photography evolves and gets better and better every day!

@kacysaur kacy it is kind of like a day in the life story of everyones lives. however some people make them more personal then others which is quite fun. and people definitely make their projects interesting. like incorporating the same object in every photo for 365 days, which seems like such a feat! i love all the interesting things people do with their projects.

@yogibari Barbara that really is a great photos, and i love that it is black and white! i will definitely check out more of his photos :)

@dhebbs i am in the same boat. my camera is way to precious to bring to college with me so i don't get 1 photo every day. usually i have alot of fillers, but i like to think i can do my project, anyway and make it my own! i do love feedback, from people i know and from strangers, any bit of feedback makes us feel good about our photography!

@jennverr i myself was always worried about oh gosh! what will i shoot next! but as it went on it. things just kind of happened and those photos just kind of presented themselves. and i've slowly grown and gotten better. i hope you do too! and i look forward to watching you grow!

@splodge hehe ellie i am more then positive that you will get exactly what you are looking for! at only 18 days in, i never had more then 12 followers. and even after a year of being here. i only just now have 80! but the feedback i get is always much appreciated. and i am sure you will have more followers soon!

@newsmebaby i am more then sure you will achieve that dream! the Popular Page definitely brings in alot of followers. and its great to have a photo picked, and i look forward to seeing you up there soon!
January 18th, 2012
@lilkitty90 WOW Jessica - bet you wished you hadn't started this thread, look at all the amazing work you did to put all these answers together - will read all this properly tonight at home !
January 18th, 2012
I have really found so far that having the project as an objective gets me thinking a bit more about what I am taking. for a long time i had a tendency only to take out the camera at parties or on holidays. I definitely got some lovely shots doing this but it didn't really force me to think. the encouragement from others has been great. I am hoping for more constructive feedback as i go on, but it is still early days. I think that some of my shots will be blurry, grainy, and overexposed. What I am most interested in is looking at other people's pictures and finding out how they took them and then hopefully learning that way.

January 18th, 2012
@lilkitty90 Thanks for the advice!=)
January 18th, 2012
@sharonaddison i am VERY glad i put it together! it gives me great new people to connect with and follow :)

@mcdermgl we all have bad days. and sometimes we get those days where the blurry, grainy, or overexposed photos happened at jsut the right time creating something amazing! i totally used to be the same way with only bringing out a camera for specific events.. and even then it was only those exposeable cameras... imagine all the moments i missed out on..
January 18th, 2012
@lilkitty90 I'm glad you did it too !
January 18th, 2012
@sharonaddison in your display picture.. is that you? with an elephant? if so that is AWESOME!!!
January 18th, 2012
@lilkitty90 haha! yes it is - taken when i was in Kerala 2 years ago, one of the best experiences ever - not in a wildlife park or anything either.....just incredible!
January 18th, 2012
@sharonaddison that is amazing in itself. i think i would have been incredible intimidated... lol
January 19th, 2012
@agima thanks so much for your comments. I think it's way cool that you've commented on so many new 365r's, it's very encouraging. Yes, I love our home. I fall more and more in love with it everyday and it is the primary reason that I'm working to improve my photography skills.
