It has been pointed out many times that my watermark is terrible.... LOL I know it is. So I spent a little time today trying to create a few stamps in photoshop, I don't really know what I am doing but this is what I came up with. What one should I use?
#4, if you are going to. Simple is best. I stopped watermarking, figuring if someone is going to steal the photo they will just crop out the watermark unless it is across the entire photo. I do copyright all of my photos though.
i have experimented with watermarks ad nauseum and finally just settled on a nice little san serif font called Champagne & Limousines...just my name and photography. I think the cursive tends to get too distracting and it's not so easy to fit in with the photo. of these, however, i would go with the 3rd one. have you tried any more basic fonts? i've even used Century Gothic which I love. :)
I like the boldness of 4 but would like to see it in a less frilly font....One of my favorite watermarks on here is from @sdpace mock one up with that font and give it a try...she even gave you her blessing :)
just another point real quick....the reason I wouldn't use most of these is that they are very distinctive "comes with Microsoft Word" script fonts. people recognize them instantly, and not in a good way. some of them make me think "oh, there's that limited font base they give you, i'm off to download some cooler ones STAT." If you want to use script, you can look at a bajillion free fonts at sites like fontfreak.com and dafont.com.
If you wanted something really unique, you could use your own signature. If you're interested, I could walk you thru how to turn your signature into a photoshop brush. IMO its the easiest way. It's how I watermark my photos.
@sweett If you wouldnt mind I could use some help with that..or just some tips on how to watermark and if its at all possible to do it in Photoshop elements..I even went as far as ordering and paying for a watermark software and i still dont get it..i really messed up alot of my photos...and i dont even know if it is necessary in this day and age..i came across a site that "help you remove watermarks" thats scary! So if you are willing i could use some help i have spent two days trying to figure it out and i have alot better things to do..I think??
im with #4 also..do you know the name of it? I really like it!
and if you read my comment above you will know why...it took me hours just to find the right font that i liked..Im tired just want something simple now and get it done...Thank you for bringing up this discussion!
I'm with @kjarn . Watermarks are for wankers. Well that's my two cents anyway. Do you want one out of fear of people using your pics or for promotional purposes only? I don't normally follow peeps who use watermarks, mainly because they are visually annoying, but mostly because they are for wankers....
I like the first and last. Make sure you put it somewhere that stops your pic being stolen easily where possible (without wrecking pic). If you emboss it and lower opacity its more subtle. Ignore those who say not to use one. These photos are the bread and butter on our table for some of us... Don't be handing then on a platter for someone else to pass off as their own.
Number 3 or 7. Watermarks don't want to be too plain in font, to me they are like an artists autograph on the picture so they should be a little snazzy, but not over the top. Just my opinion anyway.
Also @jinximages made a really cool tutorial on how to make a watermark paintbrush and how to use it so it blended with the image. I'll have a look and see if I can find it.
I'm glad to help! This is going to tell you how to make a watermark brush.
I will put it in steps to make it easier to follow.
1. If you want to use your signature, like I did, all you do is sign your name pretty big on a white sheet of paper. Then scan it with a scanner to get it on the computer. Then open it in photoshop.
If you don't have a scanner, or prefer a regular text, you can do that too. Just create a new document (5 in x 5 in, or so). Then type your watermark, exactly as you want it to appear.
2. Once you have it how you want it, go under the Edit menu and choose Define Brush Set. It will ask you to name it. Any name will work.
That's it, you now have a watermark!! Easy, huh?
So to use your new watermark, now open an image.
Now press B on your keyboard. That's the shortcut to get your Brush tool.
At the top is a menu of brushes you can use. Click on that menu, and your new watermark will be the last brush. Choose it.
Now create a new layer, and click your new brush somewhere in the image. You can use the move tool to move it anywhere in the image. Then you can make it transparent by taking the opacity down (in the layers panel).
Also, you can easily change the size of the watermark by pressing the [ and ] keys on your keyboard.
(that's not what she said)
but with these multiple choices, I'll for #2.
