Portraits!

February 17th, 2012
I was lucky enough to get to take loads of portraits over the last few days at my school, to publicise the upcoming sixth form musical 'Anything Goes'. It was so much fun and I took 2000+ pictures in the 8 or so hours I was there! From a photographic point of view it was a massive learning experience, getting to use lights, shadows, different lenses and so on. 90% of them weren't great but I did get a few that I loved :) Have you ever been asked to do portraits, if so how did they turn out? What did you learn from it? Show me some of your best!

Most of my photography is an attempt to get portraits of my kids.
Here is a self portrait of me and my little guy.

@mjmama Such beautiful kiddies!

@simon0128 Very nice, interesting for sure.

@izzymathie Love that last one in particular, sounds like a lot of fun! I've been asked to a couple of times but haven't done it- gotta love a heaping helping of self-doubt! So I've started working on it a little, using our kids & pets even. I'd love to do natural-light family portraiture.

My most recent that I'm happy with:

(third frame was just because, well, it happened, and you gotta love what happens when you are photographing kids & pets in the same space)

@izzymathie your portraits are great! they have that "celebrities backstage" feel to them, reminds me of the kind of film portraits people took 50 years ago.

Yesterday I got to take some fighter profile photos at the fighters weigh in. These guys have been training hard, cutting weight and were very good humor when I asked them to stand in front of my camera and lighting set up.

Haven't done all that much with portraits but I loved these two that I took of my Granddaughter.

A couple of these are from a photo shoot that I did, and a few are my own boys. I love doing outdoor shots, but the first one here, was indoor, with light shining in from the window.

@izzymathie Those are lovely! Well done!

Portraits are my bread and butter. And I still can't get enough of them (both taking them and seeing what others produce). :)

Here's an impromtu photo of my daughter taken this week. I would love to do more portraits, but my family isn't usually too cooperative. This was a rare exception.
