Canon Rebel xti flash problem

Anyone ever have the issue that the flash will popup, as it should, and show ready but when try to take the pic it flashes busy and won't take a shot? Currently, I have no flash capability. I read online that it sounds like the xenon bulb in the flash is out and needs to go into authorized repair center.

Are you trying to shoot up close? I found that if I had my lens on autofocus, and the camera on manual settings, it wouldn't fire....shutter or flash, if I was as up close as my lens would allow, focus wise. I switched my lens to manual focus and everything worked.....missed a few shots before I figured that one out.

Yes it sounds exactly as Shades said. Its Auto focus not being able to get focus. i.e. the scene is too dark for the camera to get focus.

the off camera flash use a red light that shines to allow the auto focus to work in these situations.

Not shooting close. Does not matter what setting/distance of shot..if it involves flash it won't fire. And not in too dark of setting to get focus.

Same issue, I have just got a canon 100d and the autofocus struggles when it's indoors or dark and often says busy so I miss a shot. What is the best focus to be on and what is best way to disable flash and disable focus automatically. It's all very confusing.
