Lens Suggestions anyone?? please =}

July 5th, 2010
Hi everyone!!

I have a Canon 50D with a 50mm f1.8, a Tamron 18-200 f3.5, and a 75-300 f4
I am looking to add to my lenses and am in need of more suggestions.....I will be using the 'new' lens for portraits & weddings.
When I go to the local camera shops they are not very helpful and have a limited supply of lenses. They also try to sell me the more expensive lenses that they carry......or 10-20mm lenses which are much to wide for what I think I need.

Thank you all for you help!!

The Canon 15-85mm looks to be a really good lens, I think it'll be my next choice because the range is very useful. Either that or the Canon 18-55mm f/2.8. High aperture throughout the whole range.

I hear good things about the 24-70 F/2.8 L USM
I have the 24-105 L which does me great for travelling but I hear the quality's not quite as good as the first option :)

The 24-70mm 2.8 would be great for a full frame body, the 18-55mm would be the equivalent to the 24-70mm on a crop body. The only problem with these great lenses is the cost.... if they are with in your budget, go with this, you won't get any better.

Agree with Travis, my suggestions were because the 50D uses a cropped sensor. The 18-55mm would be great but is expensive. The 15-85mm is cheaper and has a greater range, but of course doesn't have the high aperture.

I was going to ask a similar question, but since this thread is already about lenses, I will just add on to her question. I am looking for a decent macro lens for the EOS systems by Canon. I don't want to spend a ton on one since it will be my first and I will be just starting out with my Macro photography.

Nicole what is your price range, Macros aren't all that cheap to begin with. The 100mm macro looks to be a great lens. If you are unsure how much you will do Macro (I know I only do it for fun everyone once and a while) find an older lens from the 80's and play with that or go rent a lens. Around San Diego, renting a lens like that is less then $30 for a weekend, see how you like it and if you think you will use it enought to make it worth it. I personally can't see using a lens like that enough to make it worth it. I'm a Nikon user but I got a 1970's lens, fully manual 55mm 2.8 for $80 shipped and it is just what I need to have fun.

Hope that helps

Nicole, I recently got a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens for my Canon 550D, and love it. Got it online from B&H Photo. Couldn't use the rebate since I live in Canada, but still a decent price.
