HK imports to the UK

March 1st, 2012
I'm hopefully going to be getting a flashgun and a tripod soon so I've been having a look around and naturally a Canon 320EX is cheaper on Ebay but it's a HK import.

Has anyone bought any imports before, if so where their any problems with warranty/duty tax etc?

Also, any recommendations for a tripod would be good

@sporter85 Don't think I've ever been had to pay duty on a HK package, but I did have to pay import duty/VAT on a lens I bought from the USA. Think in some ways it is luck of the draw if your parcel gets picked for inspection or not. Still worked out £100 cheaper than buying in the UK though...

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. I think the main things to consider will be how much duty you will need to pay on them and that your warantee will probably not be valid.

Regarding which tripod, I did have a cheap (£40 one) but got a manfrotto one last week and I'm in love with it, More expensive but worth every penny!
I got the 190XPROB legs and the 496RC2 ball head.

I recently bought from this guy

Not as cheap as buying directly from Hong Kong, but he's trustworthy and comes with actual warranty, duty free too!

Cheers for the input guys, I'll see how much difference it's going to make and decide on my course of action then.

Emma, out of interest how much did you pay for the Manfrotto and did you manage to get a bundle deal? That's the kind of level of tripod I'd be looking to get`
