Photoschool 365 Assignment 4

March 8th, 2012
Hi Photoschoolers!

I'm back! Many many thanks to Jeni for taking over while my life was going a bit crazy! Back on track now and those of you who've followed my pics in the last few days will know I have some very exciting things on the go! Anywaaay, I'm sorry if this project has been a litle boring so far, but introductory weeks at real school, you know how it is? I'd love to get some feedback on what type of things people want to learn and have practice at? I'm staying away from Photoshop for now because a lot of you don't have it, and I'm only just learning it myself!

Some really nice stuff submitted last week, do you want to have them marked (sort of) or is everyone happy to just keep being a winner if you put something in? Cause you all are!

So, to this week's assignment, you should take four photos this week, and you can post any number between 1 and however many you want really, but you need to take at least 4 photos using each of the following criteria:

1. Slow shutter speed
2. Fast shutter speed
3. Long depth of field
4. Short depth of field

Each photo needs to use the criteria to describe SPACE. Space, being the area between two objects. How can you adjust our shutter speed, your DOF to best depict the space in your photo?

I assume everyone knows what DOF is? If not, just yell out and I'll explain it...
It must be immediately obvious to the viewer which of the four criteria you used for each pic. For example, there's no point shooting a bowl of fruit with a long shutter speed, because we won't know what shutter speed you used. A waterfall however, or a running dog is a whole other matter!

Have fun!!

Oh, tag our assin http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/11444/the-album-cover-challenge-round-twogments "photoschool365-4" I'll be taking and posting photos over the weekend myself!

@ellimae If you would like to do last weeks, its in General discussions, just search Photoschool365-3
@tabbycat - I think it would be nice to have some sort of discussion or feedback about what we have done and any sort of feedback from your teacher, whether about your work or on the topic in general

@tabbycat - I agree with Jeni it would be great to have some feedback about what we have done. Remind me isn't long DOF where everything is in focus and short DOF where only 1 thing is in focus and the slow shutter speed blurs subject and fast shutter speed freezes movement? That is correct isn't it?

Thank You.

@tabbycat and @jenirainbow, thank you for doing this photo school. I am learning a lot from the assignments. I think some of the ideas I had for future assignments have been used as themes or challenges on 365 before this. However, these are things I need to work on. 1. I have been told many times that I need to tell a story with each photo or make each one interesting in some ways. I need to learn techniques to be able to do this. 2. I am beginning to enter contests in which I have to write a narrative (and caption). I am weak on both skills. 3. I want to learn how to use leading lines. 4. I would like to "force" myself to take pictures in various ways---same subject and same shooting sessions. Lighting-back, front, side. Angle-high, low, from the side, at a diagonal angle, etc. Distance-far away, regular distance and then close up. I find that I zoom in most of the time and zoom in too much. I hope these ideas help and that you select one or two of these for future assignments. Thank you again@tabbycat for starting these assignments.

@daisy Hi Kathryn, to be honest, I'm not too clear myself, I need to check what Tabs is planning and get back to you. It looks like you have plenty of ideas of what you would like to work on, so if you would like to do some of those for now, I'll check the situation and get back to everyone soon!
