The splash of a lens sinking.

March 9th, 2012
whilst taking the photos for yesterday pic of the day, I must catch up with my uploading i had the misfortune of having a lens my 70-300 i use the most dissapear into the water of the docks at night.

Since rescue was out of the question its a new lens and i am now having to use the 18-55mm lens i'm currently pondering if its a case of stay with the limited option of the lens and develop my skill using this lens or replace it and continue using the wider options that both lenses give me.

Now that sucks......

I could not live with only one lens under 55mm but I mainly do portraits and action. I dont do too many landscapes and street.

I would go about and get a new lens. :)

@zshadowwalker Depends on how much you used that lens and what you regularly shoot, as @agima says. I personally would replace my 50mm immediately, if not sooner, in the same situation, but could totally live without my longer lenses.

I'd replace it as well. I'm currently using 3 lenses: 16-35, 24-70, 70-200. Depending, of course, on what you shoot, it would be tough to get by with a single lens with a max length of 55.

I do have a x2 teleconverter i could use though they do have there own problems though its useful when i need the extra magnification and survive the loss of light.

Its looking like getting a replacement is the way forward.

Can you claim the loss on an insurance? That would help cover the cost. I would get another one, I use my big lens a lot

Replace! I only have a 18-55 kit lense and a 35mm...I am dying to get a longer lense for when you need to zoom in on things. Save up or see if you can get a good used one.

Thanks @newbie @ozziehoffy @onie @kannafoot @beautifulthing @agima for your replys And its looking like replacement. It was my most frequently used lens as i do landscapes ans transport and most of my shots require the longer lens. until then I'm going to see what i can do with the shorter lens, might save up a bit in invest in a better lens than one that sunk.

@zshadowwalker Talk about being forced to think outside the box huh!! I've noticed a few on here lately where the landscapes are very wide... only like about 10mm and f/9/10.... so awesome... I'm thinking I need to give my 55 a better chance at shining... just a thought for you :)

I have taken the plunge and replaced it with a slightly shorter lens but it was a deal that i liked the replacement is a 55-200m nikon af-s vr
