Hi everyone,
I considering on upgrading my camera soon. I have done a lot of looking around and came across the Canon Eos 550d. I am just wondering if this is a good idea or not and if there is anything I should know about this camera; pros and cons.
Thanks everyone... :)
oh and just quickly, does it have a 58mm thread on it for filters?
Actually, I just thought I would add, rather than buy the camera with standard 2 lenses it is often sold with, I bought a 17-85mm lens. It was a better quality lens and pretty much did what the other two lenses did. I have also bought a 60mm macro lens which I love.
I've got the 500D which I think is a very good camera :-) BTW, the thread size is not based on the camera, but rather on the lenses. For example, the usual 18-55mm that generally comes with the camera has a 58mm thread, but if you were to get the 10-22mm lens, then the thread is bigger (think it is 72, but might be in the 90s. Amazon will tell you more!) You will be able to get filters for it, whatever the size though.
I have a 500d and think it is a great little camera. The only issue you have with theses are their inability to handle noise at ISO greater than 800. Anything above that they get really noisy.
Now having said that most if this can be fixed in post but it leaves you with a soft image.
Other than that they are great value for money and will take your skills to that next level.
that entire range (400, 450, 500, 550, 600) will give you decent bang for your buck.
I think the one question you want to ask yourself is will you be shooting from weird angles? If so then you may want to think about going to 600D as that has a fully articulated screen so you can put your hand up and shoot above a crowd and still see to compose or shoot from low down

Good luck, it sounds a great camera, best price I've seen is on eBay £340 here in the UK.
