I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with their shots uploading with significantly softer focus. I've had photos that look spot on in PS, but once uploaded - don't. I imagine this has something to do with the file compression, but have seen numerous shots from this community where it doesn't appear to be a problem. Is this a macro lens issue? Is there something I can do prior to uploading that will help? Should I be saving at smaller res and resharpening? Thanks in advance.
I did notice some brightness loss once uploaded and up it somewhat, for softer focus you could apply the High pass filter, have the blend mode in Overlay and adjust the Opacity of the top layer until you have a decent sharpening result.
I think you have it correct, if you are seeing any softening, it would be the compression that the site uses. Don't worry about your lens, it's not the issue. There is probably a "sweet spot" for resolution that you should export at, but I'm not sure what it is for this site. (It used to be 720 on the long end for facebook.) @lesphoto
I havent notice soft focuing but I do get annoyed at how this site drains the colour and its diffficult to over process an image in ps just so it looks 'normal' on 365 :(
I've noticed this, and have one shot where the difference between the shot on here & on Flickr is 'disheartening' to say the least. http://365project.org/humphreyhippo/365/2012-03-16
It seems particularly noticeable on certain types of shot.
@stoat@jtrudell I've noticed the same thing and have been "over-processing" some of my shots a bit to try and compensate, but still isn't making it. I do find that it sometimes helps to change the color of your workspace from gray to either black or white once you're done editing for a bit of an evaluation as to how your shots will appear with those backgrounds once on 365.
a few times it has happened, but not recently enough to recall which one. But it sure as heck made me feel a bit akward in case people thought I could not tell that I posted an out of focus photo
I always upload smaller versions of my photos anyway and I've never noticed any issues with them. Maybe it's safer to resize them to something smaller (I think I go to 1980 x 1024) before uploading, then the 365 site may not treat them so drastically.
I only every upload small images but it really drains the colour anyway. With my latest image http://365project.org/stoat/365/2012-04-01 I had to really crank up the saturation in order for it to look the same as the one that I had uploaded to my Facebook account (which didn't need any adjusting)
