date changes when i change batteries

April 12th, 2012
i use the 7d and of late i've noticed that the camera resets the date to factory setting (01/01/2000) whenever i change my batteries. a little frustrating cos the date stamp on the EXIF data reflects that pic is taken years ago when it's taken today. anyone else with this problem? any solutions? and is there a way to amend the EXIF data for the affected shots?

that is interesting as I just noticed that my camera was acting very slow and thought it may be a low charged battery and then later when I was uploading it was some date in the future!! Maybe i have been off on the Tardis and didn't even know it!

I have to input the time and date everytime i change the battery on my olympus. Its really annoying, especially when im trying to do it quick to catch something!

I have the same problem but mine sets it back to the day I took the battery out, so I am a day behind!

It is most likely that you have an internal battery that keeps the date, when this goes flat the dates reset when you change your batteries.

You will have to take it in for a service and so they can change the internal battery.

although i haven't run into this yet with my camera, i read that there is a little battery that recharges itself from my main camera battery to keep the calendar going when the camera is not on. it sounds like you have one too and it just died on you.

I noticed my camera was doing this, but, like Sheri, I only lose the amount of time that the battery is out of the camera to recharge. I have a Nikon 5100. Would be interested in knowing if anyone has a solution! @groovygirlrn

@christinebutler @mantha @agima @sunnygreenwood @rockinrobyn @groovygirlrn thanks to all for your input. It sure sounds like my camera needs to be serviced but I'm determined to keep the 365 going so will wait and send it down first thing in the new year - just 263 days to go!! :)

ah this may be what is happening to mine too incidentally i notice that my camera is slow when flicking throught he photos on the camera could this all be tied into the battery too @agima? I guess i need a service too! but as it is a 30D i am thinking of getting rid of it and getting update!
