Does anyone look/comment via a mobile phone?

April 28th, 2012
I'm really struggling to find the time to to sit at the computer to look and comment on other peoples images. I'm considering getting a new mobile phone (an iphone, I think as i'm a mac user) so I can use the time I'm sat on a bus or grab a few minutes in my lunch break to keep up with other people's photos. However I was wondering how much of my mobile data allowance I would use if I did this? As I'm looking at photos I guess I would use more MB than browsing web pages, for example Amazon or BBC.
The package I've looked at is offering 1GB of internet use each month and I really have no idea if that's going to be enough. Occasionally, I might like to upload an image I've taken from the phone camera, so I any thoughts/advice would be welcome.
(In the simplest terms please, as I'm not mobile phone literate and don't speak technical!)

Thanks

I have a 500 meg allowance and have yet to go over that, I do come close each month though and that is using Opera Mini as a browser that does a significant amount of data compression. I guess it would depend on what else you start using your allowance for streaming video, downloading music etc. If it was just looking at 365 and some other websites I would think you would be ok.

With 1GB you should be fine. I only have 500meg and have never gone over it and I look at and upload photos onto 365 all the time.

I have 1.5gb, in 2 weeks I've used nearly 600mb, but that includes streaming a full F1 race, you should be fine.

A lot of mobile networks let you have unlimited browsing and you only use your allowance with downloads.

@38mm @scottkaway Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. I won't do much else on the internet via the mobile - amazon and the BBC are my two staples and if I'm away I tend to look up local information, nothing of which will be mb hungry. As long as my youtube addicted daughter doesn't get hold it I should be alright! If anyone can now help me with the next decision, which phone, which, plan, which provider I'd be very, very grateful. There's just so much choice and options, my head is about to explode. I think I better go edit a few photographs just to calm down!

I fortunately have unlimited data so browse on my phone all the time. I have an android phone with a big screen.

@berni I went for an iPhone a couple of weeks ago and am definitely not regretting it! If you want a 16gb one you should get some decent deals.

@minxymissk , Umm.. I was going to get a 32gb one because I've got a 16 gb ipod and easily fill that with music, however there's a really good deal on 16gb phones. I can get a free 16gb on 02 for £32 a month, more minutes and texts than I'll ever use and 1gb of data. it's such a bargain.. What's a girl to do!!!? I've already made one mistake last year when I got an another android phone instead because it was half the price of an iphone and it's absolutely rubbish, so I've got to make the right decision this time!!!

IPhone - its also an awesome camera :)

I'm on here on my phone all the time and I've never even come close to going over!

I use an iPhone to browse while on train and have never gone over 500MB
It was better before the site got upgraded as you could select and use the full site, now you are forced to use the mobile site which is a pita.

@berni I went through e2save, and got the 32gb phone for £36 a month on T-mobile. I had to pay £55 for the phone, but as I went through Top Cashback I got £60 cashback on the deal :) http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/minxymissk

iphone is so great, I would recommend no other phone. :) plus the camera is ace! and you'll be fine with 1GB, I have never gone over 1GB! :)
April 28th, 2012
@berni That's with 1.5gb of internet, 300 mins and 300 texts, but you can add a booster to that, so I've got unlimited texts too (Not to mention imessage which is basically free messages to iphone users)

I don't know about the phone thing but I use my iPod about 90 percent of the time I'm on 365 and to my knowledge it uses little to no memory. :)

Remember that if you use your phone at home you can hook into your wireless broadband and that won't eat into your mobile allowance. :)

As a side note I have a HTC desire, and I am really really disappointed with the camera, so I will be going for an iphone next time

@calx Snap. I really don't like the HTC desire phone at all, I keep accidentally calling people, I've picked up all my daughters facebook friends in my contacts somehow, the internet keeping hanging, I can't use it with a mac, I can't sync with my ical or contacts all in all.. waste of money. people keep telling me work arounds, but they are all so complicated, I can't get my head around them....perhaps I'm just getting too old!!
April 28th, 2012
@minxymissk Even more of a bargain... I've never heard of the web sites you mention...I was thinking of going over to 02 as they seem to have the best coverage, but you know every shop I've been into all claim to have the best coverage!!!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with half a gigabyte download allowance per month. I often use it for browsing 365 and sometimes uploading direct from the phone, but I do it when connected to the WiFi. That way it doesn't use up my allowance. It does mean I don't have to keep waiting for the PC to fire up.

I am on the old iphone plan with at&t which means my wireless use is unlimited and yes I do use it on the bus to comment. But I am a pc user and not a mac.

You just reminded me that I have to upgrade my minutes. LOL Usually I do fine on my iPhone with 300MB, and I use the GPS system in the po\hone, and upload a photo here and there, plus look at photos online. Now my daughter is playing soccer and I;'ve been using a lot more minutes at her practices. But I think an Iphone is a good way to try to catch up on comments, especially since the mobile program on 365 got updated.

I dont actually browse by phone - but I do tether my phone to my ipad to browse - and hence use the data on my phone. I have 2.2 gig a month and havn't got anywhere near using it - but I find my smartphone too small to see images clearly and it loads awfully slowly on the phone - but quite quickly on the ipad using the phones connection.

I have an iPhone and would never use anything else. I use it LOTS to snap, edit, and upload to 365, as well as browse and comment. I have a 200 MB plan with AT&T and because I use wi-fi whenever I can, I have only gone over my plan once... when I needed to use the gps feature quite a bit and also went on a cruise during the same billing period, and had no wi-fi during those times.

I use an iphone lots of the time to browse the web. I've never gone over my limit, though I can't remember what it is. Not a huge amount I think.
April 29th, 2012
I use my iPhone all the one to view and comment and it's really handy, whethe I'm in a queue at the supermarket or I get a quiet moment at work or if I'm lying in bed and can't sleep. I have unlimited Internet usage though so I never look at my data usage. A lot of the time I am connected to wifi though and I think that then alters you data consumption as you're not depending on your mobile phone provider for Internet connection in those moments.

I tried my hardest to use my 300mb mobile internet up and couldn't,not because I don't use it that much but because I can't get on the thing most the time! I don't reckon I could use it all anyway, even on a heavy days use, I only used about 6mb. Its pretty hard to use it unless you are downloading music and films.

I look on my phone and comment and I have never hit my 1gb per month yet.. I also do web browsing as well, BBC news, facebook etc..
