The largest full moon of 2012 will be at 11:35 PM EDT This coincides with the moon's perigee. The moon will start to rise at 7:45 PM EDT and set at 6:00 AM EDT on Sunday. The forecast says partially cloudy.
I'm so excited!!! I'm going to try to get some pictures, but I dunno if I'll be able to get anything worthy with my little point and shoot. I've never done night time photography before so it'll be an interesting experiment. :)
We are going to the beach this weekend. I am hopeful that we can get into position to either get the old lighthouse with the moon or catch a moon setting over the water.
I totally expect this site to be flooded with great moon shots starting Sunday!
oh glad you added the time for this side @agima will save me looking up what on earth EDT means :) It is crisp and clear as tonight so fingers crossed the clouds stay at bay, its looking good on the forcast
This may seem like a dumb question, but everything I see about this always has an "EDT" time attached. Will it be the same in the southern hemiphere? I live in the Kingdom of Swaziland next to South Africa.
@michaelgoodling You can do a moonrise search on google and get the time for your location, it will be a little different everywhere, do you have an iphone, you can also get an ap. Ihave the ap and it works awesome. It is always different for each full moon phase of the year as well.
@shirljess I use The Photographer's Ephemeris for sun / moon schedules for my photography. I see we are expected to be at full moon as well this weekend, just didn't know if it's "The Big One" or not. Thanks for your suggestions.
@hjbenson Oh, now I think I may be confused! My iphone ap shows moonrise at 8:05 P.M. and moonset at 5:37 A.M. on May 5, 2012 for the location of Pullman Washington. I think I need to research what EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) and PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) means, so I can get the moon at it's fullest during the night of May 5th ? Am I correct in my thinking, now? I am Pacific Daylight time on the west coast and my ap is set for my location, so am I shooting for The moon to rise at 8:35 and set at 5:37 also shooting at the PDT time to get it in it's fullest phase on that night. So this is Where I am confused. if the moon does not rise here until 8:35 P.M. Am I going to sit and wait until 11:35 P.M. to actually get some shots of it at it's fullest for my Pullman WA location? Sorry I am such a problem child.
@shirljess Shirley, the full moon is all night, but the minute it is the absolute fullest will be 9:35 pm MDT. But it will look the largest to us during the first two hours of rising
