I want to take a class to learn more about settings for my camera so I can get off the manual mode. . . does anyone have any suggestions for a class or even for a book that will teach me the basics?
Has anyone taken the classes offered by digital days around the country?
The internet actually has some really good tutorials. :D I'm not sure what camera you use or what settings you have, but google is a good place to start. :) But if you learn better with structure, then a class might be your better bet. (I haven't attended a single photography class myself!)
I've just started the OU T189 photography course. For the same reasons.
I'm in the first week, will be able to say in a couple of months if I would recommend or not.
Right before I started this project, I took a one day workshop with Chris Keating... best thing ever! I feel very confident with using the manual settings on my camera now!
@juletee@pocketmouse What Teresa said. There is SO much information available on the internet, I would not pay for a beginners course. Google and youtube it up, the info is PLENTIFUL.
I wanted to take this course but couldn't justify paying the fee at this time. I'm hoping to enrol for the October presentation so I'd be interest to know how you get on.
I had my camera for over a year and was using as a point and shoot. Then a friend recommended me take a class with her . We took a beginning photography class at the local community college. It cost around $100 and it was well spent! I think it really depends on how you learn. If you can learn by reading the manual, which mine might as well be in Chinese, then read your manual. If you can learn by watching videos online, do that. I wanted someone to explain things to be. Break it down so that I know why I may want certain settings for certain subjects. Take into consideration that I knew nothing about iso, shutter speed, fstop, white balance. I really think that this is an individual preference. Ask yourself what you know and what is the best way you need to learn, and then you will have your answer. Hope this helps :)
@juletee which city. I find that in Philadelphia there are a few offered every so often on groupon or living social. Yo also did not say if you wanted a three hour one day class or more of a classroom and assignment setting. I took a class at the local art college for continuing education and learned a lot. But ultimately, if you read the guide to the camera and give yourself assignments you will learn a lot on your own.
@brumbe check froknowsphoto.com I think he is having some sort of photography boot camp in Philadelphia in a week or two...I may have got my cities mixed up. At any rate I think it is more to learn about lighting...but I wish I could go to it.
