Anybody living near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, , England ? I recently found out this is the area where my English ancestors originated. They came to "the colonies" in the mid to late 1600s and settled in what is now the state of Maryland.
I'd love to see photos of what this area of England looks like! The map says it's near Wales and west of London.

I don't know the area myself, but the following website has photographs of the whole of the uk - http://www.geograph.org.uk/ - just enter Cirencester in the search box top right and it should give you a good selection of results
@if1 Thanks for the link! My "ancestral village" looks like a very tidy, prosperous community! I get the feeling raising sheep and woolen goods were/are major part of the economy. I wonder if there is a similar Geograph project in Germany. I'd like to see pics of where my German ancestors came from....
I grew up in Swindon, not far from Cirencester. Used to go and visit occasionally as its a pretty little Cotswold market town with some roman heritage. Think there's a museum full of mosaics and vases and stuff. Sorry dont have any pics though!
@if1@hasselhotch@sobefree@rich57 Thank you all for the links to photos. Geograph is a great resource! There is a Geograph project in Germany, but according to the Geograph editor, it's not catching on very quickly in Germany. I tried to find my ancestral village, but nothing showed up. Next question.....How does one pronounce "Cirencester"?????
"sir-en-cester"???
@gizathecat Hello! I just saw this. I live in Cirencester and grew up in the area. It is beautiful here! You can see quite a few photos in my photostream of the town and the surrounding area. It is the heart of the Cotswolds in the South West of England. Also, many films and documentaries are shot around here. I'm sure I'll be taking a lot more photos very soon!

Just type in Cirencester UK and see what comes up :)
I often drive pass the sign on the motorway for Cirencester but never been there :)
My brother is at Uni there so I have a couple of photos from times when I've been to visit him and things.
