Unfortunately this photo was taken with a compact camera, so if it is a dust spot on the sensor (and unfortunately that's what it looks like) there's no way of removing it without dismantling the entire camera (which with motorised zoom lenses is not for the faint of heart).
You should be able to see a mark that significant if it was on the lens. If the lens appears clear, it's probably time to find out if the camera is still under warranty or not :(
@susanrm@cfrantz@abirkill Thank you so much for all of you! Maybe I've just been so hopeful that I've only thought it must be on the lens. It seems I need to take it to a camera shop and let them dismantle my camera. It must be easier than editing most of my photos :)

the quick fix is to use a spot remover in your edting software.
then the question becomes whether to learn how to clean the sensor yourself versus take it to your local camera shop and have it done there.
