I was just wondering if anyone has purchased the new Canon 5D Mark lll. I'm thinking about it, but was wondering if anyone has purchased it and if so what do you think? If you have upgraded from the Mark ll how does it compare?

To be honest, it's hard to say. The Mk II is an AMAZING camera. Used it for year and years with amazing results. I shoot a lot of weddings, so the extra low light capabilities, paired with the focusing system made it worth it. But I also use the camera 5/7 days a week for looong periods of time, so it was a justified expense.

I would only recommend upgrading if you can justify the hefty price tag :) @catwhiskers

@gurry is the only one I know of so far. I have a 5D Mark II and am pretty happy with it (though I shoot mostly film now), so I don't see myself "upgrading" anytime soon :)

yep,a big differance in the focusing/metering system according to the reviews. £1200 for a new markII or £3000 for a new markIII.
i aint no pro but get the II buy one/two new real nice lenses and get some flowers for your wife.

I have the Mark III and am thrilled with it. Mine was an upgrade from the Canon 40D, so it's a huge difference. Well worth the $3500. The low light capabilities are amazing, and I love the built in HDR function. Even hand-held, it does a fantastic job of aligning the images. Color is fantastic, and focus is extremely fast. Only thing it doesn't have that I'm begging for is a live histogram.

I upgraded from an old 400D!!! I love it! Not sure if I'd go to the expense of getting 5D Mkiii if you already have 5D Mkii though given the $$$$$ involved! Agree with @mrmilner

@catwhiskers I think the best thing about the Mark III is the price drop it brings for the Mark II. If you don't take pictures of fast moving objects, the Mark II is a steal and will be getting even better in terms of price in the coming months.
