Sorry, the title should be Small compact eith a good ZOOM?
I'm going on holiday in a pair of months. I'll be moving around a lot, and I think it will be easier (and lighter) to carry a small compact camera than the reflex. So I'm looking into small point and shoot cameras. Having the reflex, I don't want to spend much money (100-150 €). I'd like something with a decent zoom (about 10x) and, if possible, a decent macro, but this is not essential.
Does such a camera exist? Do you have something like that, or can you recomend any camera?
I cant recommend an actual camera but I will advise you to try out different ones using the flash, some seem to leave a nasty shadow when the flash is used.
I love my Panasonic Lumix TZ8. It's an oldie, but the Lecia lense on it is amazing - the new camera are a little pricey (£300 (~400 euro)) so perhaps you can pick up a second hand one for your trip? Happy travelling
I've always been pleasantly surprised by the power of the tiny flash on my Nikon Coolpix P300 - mind you, it does kill the battery life.
The macro mode is very good, but it's not a very large zoom so I'm not sure it would suit.
@lorraineb Thanks, I will try them. I wouldn't have thought about trying them with the flash on. Because I wanted to ask about a good ZOOM, not flash. Idiot me.
@crimper_chun Yes, Lumix cameras are too expensive. But I prefer a new camera, as my parents will also be using it. That's why I really need a good zoom, they are far more likely to use the zoom than to walk towards/ar from their subject.
Try the Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 HS 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 5x Wide-Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Lens and Full 1080p HD Video I have the model just before this. A little cheaper and the zoom not quite as long but SO compact. This newer model is available on Amazon US for $229.
I've finally bought a Panasonic Lumix Tz 18. It was on special offer - only today, lucky me- so even if it was above my initial limit, I think I've found a good deal. Now it's time to get to know it!
