I have recently found photos that I have uploaded on 365 being used on another website - granted via a link to 365.
Whilst I don't really have an issue with this I would have liked to have been asked before this happened just as a matter of courtesy. However, it does leave me wondering if there are others being used that I do not know about.
I have had one of my photos used before in the past without my permission for some online article. I do use TinEye to check every once in a while. Though, they are only so accurate at locating copies of your photos.
Where ownership & origin are clear, with the pic using the 365 shot (I'm thinking of Pinterest here), I don't have a problem with it. If the photo was being claimed as some one's own, used for commercial purposes, or the picture had been copied to a server I had no control over then I think that is a different matter and wouldn't be very happy about it.
To be honest, I generally think of anything I upload to the internet as something I have lost control over, which is why I tend to only upload relatively low res shots.
@kiwigirl04@brianl By low res, I just mean I resize the pic down to typically 1024 x 768 or thereabouts. I think this is an acceptable size for viewing on most screens, but pretty useless for anything else.
Well you're worrying me now...while I have no problem showing stuff off to fellow 365'ers I would be pretty miffed if someone was to use something of mine before I could...
@caddick Totally agree! I found out about this quite by accident. BleakHounds is part of the name I use for my business. Recently I had to change my business URL when mobile me closed. I was looking yesterday evening via the google search engine to make sure I was still visible and came across the photos. I would have been extremely happy if I had just been asked or if there had been some sort of acknowledgement but there was absolutely nothing. It worries me that if this is happening what else is potentially going on that I do not know about.
@grannysue@danacarruthers - At the moment I am in discussion with the other website and do not wish to mention who it is at the present time. I can safely assure you that there are no photos from other members of 365 on that website. The only photos present were those of myself and my OH, yellow jersey.
Having said that the other website feel that there is nothing wrong with what they have done. Maybe we could ask 365 to make this member's only. That way the people viewing the photos all have the same objective?
Like how you totally pasted the pics with copyright notice :-) Looks like although they didn't think it was wrong they removed the links from their site?
