I have been asked to do a photo shoot for a dear friend's friend (I do not know the family myself.) They are in the process of adopting a child and the adoption is set to be finalized next week. They would like me to take their first family photos. Planning to shoot at the beach (their request), but other than that, not yet sure what we're doing. Anyone have any ideas for this kind of shoot? I've done a number of family shoots but never one like this before. I want to make sure it's something special for such an unforgetable moment in their lives. Any ideas would be more than welcome. Thanks! :)
I did a family shoot for my niece and one of the best shots was with the parents standing with their backs to me and the baby in the middle facing me. All the focus was on the baby and it would fit perfectly with a new addition like this situation :) Also I would just let them be and photograph them as they are interacting with eachother also....the love will shine through :) Hope this helps
Thanks, everyone! @pengu1n I don't even know that yet. She requested my phone number from my friend and should be calling me soon to set it up. That's one of the things I want to find out from her.
I think I'd start by googling images. One thing I notice is that most beach shoots, people wear white or pastels and often jeans.LOL I found a really nice pic though, where they're wearing blues and lime greens :-) If there are other children, I'd suggest that besides the outfits they're going to wear for the group shot, the children bring a fave outfit of their own, and do some individual portraits. Because even though this is about celebrating the new one, it's nice for the others to get special attention too. Got that idea from this site (not my own), isn't the little girl in the pink skirt cute? http://www.wishingwellphotography.com/family/beach-vacation-saint-augustine-family-photographer-8-11/

i would also use shallow DOF to pin-point some people out of the family and then switch it around.
Get them to put their hands in a circle, or the feet in a circle. Bury on in sand and just have fun with it.
