Break room re-do

September 20th, 2012
Hey, wanted to ask for input on colors for this room. I hope to get this re-done as soon as possible. I tried a couple of those paint sites where you swap colors. I don't know how anyone could get useful ideas from them. I don't have the photoshop skills to swap colors any better! Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

maybe a baby blue, something light.. cause you got the wood there.. something to look right against the wood color..
maybe a light red, orange, blue, purple may go good with this..

Do you want it to be relaxing or energizing? Relaxing- go with blues, greens and earth tones. Energizing- yellows, oranges and reds. Fun and contemporary- black and white with splashes of color. I'm not a decorator, but that's what I've been told by some and read in magazines.

If it's in the budget get rid of all those lighting fixtures and replace with can lights, that's the worst thing about the room in my opinion. I would use a sagey green on the walls and paint the shutters and the chair rails and moldings white. I would hang some nice landscape theme poster art on the walls.

What ever you decide for color, Benjamin Moore makes a paint base that turns the walls into a chalk board . Imagine the fun.

Is it the light making it look so yellow? Are those walls white?

Apricot, terra cotta or Tuscan tones?

I go with the sage green but leave the wood. Black and white with splashes sounds fun too!

@stude73 We are actually painting the wood, the wallpaper part is not in the budget right now. I would love to see it replaced or taken down and painted, but my boss thinks it would be a big ole mess.

@olivetreeann I think relaxing is the idea, mostly to look clean! The room is so dark and YELLOW! That is due to the lighting alot too. I think the earth tones are a good idea.

@momzo My boss is for changing the lights, but I think the cost is a big factor. I like the can light idea. I am going to price those for the project! Thanks!

@swguevin That would be fun! Not sure that someone wouldn't do something childish with it though!

@m9f9l Yes, it's the lighs. The break area years ago was actually ran by a food service company and it was apropriatly named, "The Golden Glow"! The walls have wallpaper on them!

@peterdegraaff I will get some paint cards with those colors, they sound nice.

@jannkc The wood is what we are painting! :-) I love sage green thought, will have to check that out!

Thanks everyone for so many helpful ideas.

Is it ONLY the wood that you're painting? And you're leaving the wallpaper? Trying to get a clear idea here. And are you keeping all the light fixtures? Because if so, you'll need to cooridnate with those. I think the tuscan idea is nice. Are you thinking high gloss since it's trim?
September 20th, 2012
Or are you leaving the trim wood and only painting the wood paneling?

I love the color sage green, but If everything else is staying the same, I think it might just end up looking sickly :-)

@m9f9l Hi. And thanks for your ideas. We are painting the wood and the wood trim. The wallpaper stays. I would LOVE for it to go too! I am working on quotes for light pictures. I am hoping to talk him into recessed lighting. I hate those light fixtures!

OOhhh, then I say white on the trim, and then something that can hold it's own against that lighting, like a tuscan cranberry color, or a tuscan blue. Maybe a different color for those window shutters. You can always cover some of that wall paper with pictures, although I know pictures can get pricey.
