What have I captured in the clouds?

I have never seen anything like this before. Any ideas?

@Jase Thank you for pointing it out. I have a lot to learn about cameras brought this one second hand and just looked through a range of photos since I got the camera and can see the dust specs on them. Now to decide what to do.

or use lower f-stops... I find my dusty sensor only shows up in shots of f18 or f22. ;)

not sure if theis helps you @craftyclare but i took your photo and goggle imaged it and it came up with some simlar photos. possibly a Cirrus cloud which shows doesnt tell you much about the weather. Here is a link to clouds http://www.srh.noaa.gov/key/?n=high_clouds

Go to the Cloud Appreciation Society facebook page and post it there. The folks there are really great about answering questions about weird looking clouds.

And, yep, it looks like you've got dust on your sensor. Get the blower tool referenced above and check your camera's manual on directions of how to manually clear your sensor if the camera's automatic sensor cleaning isn't working to get rid of it.
