Morning all. I stumbled upon this site yesterday evening, and I have to say, it looks like loads of fun. I can't wait to get started! I've had a series idea for quite a long time but never got around to the motivation aspect. I think this is exactly what I need.
I'm fascinated by language as much as I am by photography. My plan is to create each of the 365 photos based on a word I think is beautiful, and/or more people should hear. Words like "entropy" and "petrichor," for example So far I have a grand total of two satisfactory photos, but there are 233 words stored in my artillery already. What do you think? Is it an attainable goal? Any advice?
Thank you for taking a look at this! I'm excited to join the community.
I think it sounds fascinating. Sometimes I find that naming my shot of the day is really hard but quite often one word will do so it's an interesting idea to work the other way. Welcome to 365 and good luck :o)
Welcome to 365. I love photography and writing and have a lot of fun naming my shots. Your idea sounds intriguing. I look forward to seeing what you do.
Sounds like a long project. I give anyone a nod of encouragement if they want to take on something like this long term. Personally, I am too easily distracted and would be crazy if I was confined for the whole year. I would though make it part of my project as an ongoing series. Good luck. It can be done with a steadfast diligence.
I think its a great idea to have a theme or focus for your project! And the beauty of the word a day / photo a day is that if you have brain block about a particular word, you can always swap it for another of your words.....welcome to 365!! :)
I think that will be amazing! Go for it! I bet I will learn a whole new vocabulary from this... Will you be sure to give the deffinition to each word as well? Welcome to the most amazing community around.. you are going to love this place and will soon call it home!
Welcome to 365, hope you enjoy the journey and atmosphere here. Thoroughly approve of your goal - can't wait to see your photos!
I have never tried a deviled egg...!!
I'm a writer and a photographer and I think it sounds an interesting project, you shoulda posted a few before asking.
If you need more words you could look in art books and photography books to find specialist terms and then they will be quite handy to base images on. For example abstract, frotage, blending, stippled, contrast, tonal, chiaroscuro etc.
Dorrena: Thanks, I'll definitely need that luck. :) I know what you mean about feeling confined, but the best part about this project is it can be anything from potraiture to landscape to conceptional, as long as it connects to the word of choice.
Sara: Yes, that is a plus. Thanks :)
Jenn: Well, there's no accounting for taste in hyperbole, haha.
katy: Challenge for sure, fascinating, I agree.
Shirley: Thanks! I hope to open up my vocabulary too. I am going to include the definitions and some other details as well. Thank you for the welcome! I'm glad to take part.
Phil: Thanks, I'm very sure I will. You've never tried a deviled egg? Please, don't deprive yourself!
Dave: Thanks for the advice. That's exactly the approach I've been using, too. Chiraroscuro is on my list (I'm glad there's someone else that knows this word; it's one of my favorites) and am considering frottage. It's also fun to gather words that apply to the other senses and art mediums, like music and food, as well.
I'm in the process of posting some photos now. Thanks again. Also, may I ask what you write?
@spirrowshoot I'll check the supermarket tomorrow but am not sure it's a staple regular in rural Bedfordshire!
BTW If you click the blue 'reply' next to someone's name it will bring up their details in the response and they get a notification that you've left them a message. The notifications box is the little envelope at the top of your page, near the search box. It goes red if you have a message anywhere, hover over it and it will tell you where.
Good luck with the project - enjoy!
@spirrowshoot
I'm just finishing an MA in Creative writing and I'm sub editor on the magazine www.structomagazine.co.uk
and I founded cutaway magazine, www.cutawaymagazine.co.uk
I write poems, stories and novels, but I only publish stories and poems, no novels as yet.
;)
@spirrowshoot
well there's a lot of hours in a week I guess, but I only did one cutaway magazine, I can't do that all the time, its too time consuming. What do you write then?
Pretty much anything I can wrap my brain around. Poetry, shorts, novels, analytic stuff, ect. I just started on my first play, too. It's quite a different challenge.
That's a neat idea. I have done some series' on here but only about 10 or so shots on each. But a word a day would be great, although rather hard to try and get a fitting image each day. Best of luck to you!!
Thank you all - I'm glad to have such encouragement. Finding an internet connection is a real hassle at the moment, but hopefully I'll be able to upload every day. I can't wait to explore the rest of this site once my situation solidifies a bit!
@ggg Yes, tags are a pain. Typically I just type in anything that pops into my head. You?
@carolinedreams Neat! I can debate that some of those words have English equivalents, haha, but they're all great. Thanks for that.

You can look for pre-made deviled eggs at the grocery store, but I don't recommend it. Yuck :p

Thank you :)
Only 2.5% of 365ers finish? That's surprising. How'd you figure that?
I used my super powers to deduce it.
Oh, no wait a minute, Ross said it. I don't even have super powers.
