Folks
I have Canon 7D, wanted to know if any one has tried adapter to connect Pentax K mount lenses to Canon. I know that we lose auto focus but other than that from what I have read on web, it works reasonably well . of course there are some negative to mixed reviews as well - Hence wanted the input from folks here...
has any one tried this ? Which lens ? What adapter did you use ? Any photo that you could share would be welcome as well.
Thanks

Don't use KAF There is a piece of metal around the aperture pin that will ruin your mirror, any other PK lens will be fine though. I used a cheap adapter and a piece of metal sheared off after that I swore I will never use an adapter again. Loads of people use them on a regular basis though. This was just my experience. These were shot using a PK Holga lens for DSLRs and an 1100d
@ayearinthelifeof thanks for all the info. I am going to give this a shot, seems like a good way to get some good glass at very reasonable price. Appreciate your advise on KAF lenses.
My absolute favorite lens is a 1965 Asahi (Pentax) Super Takumar lens, which is M42 screw mount. I got an adaptor on ebay (this is the adaptor from M42 to EOS:

I use it on my 5D Mark II almost exclusively. No autofocus or f/stop indicator, but it does have an autofocus confirm (beep) when it is properly focused. One note if you go this route, avoid the Super Multicoated Takumar; it is a newer lens and has an additional metal tab for the aperture that disagrees with the adaptor; go with the older Super Tak.
Here is a recent sample photo, but my albums are full of examples:
I haven't used extenders or converters since my oldie SLR. (With one notable exception; my Samyang 500m Mirror lens, which came with a special converter.) I've learned by trying on a Sigma 2x converter, that you should be really careful with what you combine. Even if the mount is compatible, there are other physical aspects of lens/converter/mount that may be incompatible. Get a professional outlet to help you choose, and test it in the shop.
On that note; I'm a Pentax 'fan', and I love the fact that I can still use 20-30 year old lenses with my new bodies.
You won't save much money by buying old Pentax K-mount lenses any more. Maybe you'll find something decent in the screw mount Taks, but don't bother with the K-mount lenses. They have gotten really expensive now as all of the current Pentax dSLR users chase after all of the top-quality K-mount lenses (they have full backwards compatibility). I couldn't believe it the last time I checked on the price of a SMC M 50 f1.4 lens - originally made in the early 1980's, they go for well over $100, even though in my opinion, the lens is too soft to use at f1.4. And would it be worth it to buy some low-quality old lens, just because its affordable?
@ayearinthelifeof Interesting, will looking into it. Thanks @grizzlysghost Very nice photo, love the bokeh. Thanks for your input. I am going to experiment with the M42 as well. @mtngal Agreed but I dont feel like buying the cheap plastic body lens from Canon for $400-$500. I have been having terrible luck with these and have sent them for repairs multiple times now. Hence looking at some cheaper and sturdier alternative. I agree with your overall sentiment that cheap is not a good enough reason, it needs to be good glass as well.
@devanago If I was you I would still go after the K-mount lens, I am a Pentax user and I got my 50mm with a camera attached for £25 my Takumar zoom cost £20 and my 28mm cost.... £20 all in the current climate. I have only had my camera just under a year. It is simply best to shop around, some internet savvy peeps have realised the demand and thus put their prices up but there are still plenty of deals to be had.
@ayearinthelife Eddie, I ordered both K mount and M42 adaptor, I am going to try both type of lenses. The adaptor is so cheap, I want to have max flexibility in this experiment.
If you live in a larger city, Craig list is a good place to go. Look for someone selling the complete Pentax camera. I have picked up a number of nice Pentax lenses by purchasing the camera, (because the seller was throwing in the lens). For example an nice M1:2 50 mm included in the price for a ME Super for $25. The lens by itself is selling for $50 or more on Ebay. I did the same with a Pentax PZ10 it had a nice camera bag, AF 28-80 and a AF 70-210. The AF 70-210 turned out to be junk, but the AF 28-80 and the camera bag were in excellent shape. Cost was $70. So now I have a ME Super and a PZ-10 camera bodies for sale. Anyone want one. They will be cheap. No lenses though.
@kenc Thank you for your comment, Ken. I am happy with the canon body and lenses I have, one more combination of body will make it really tough decision whenever I go out someplace :-). I was missing some primes in my collection of canon lenses. I just bot on ebay a 28mm 2.8 K Mount lens to experiment, got it for $85. But looks like the M42 lenses are cheaper, so will try one of this too. Hopefully next week I will have some photos from the 28mm to post
@grizzlysghost Aaron, I got my 28mm F2.8 ( K Mount Lens ) and used fotodiox adapter. I have a simple question : This is a manual lens, the fotodiox claims AF confirmation for Canon. Is AF confirmation supposed to work on Auto lenses or can it work on Manual lenses. Currently, I am not getting any AF confirmation.

@devanago AF conformation would have to be switched on, all it means is you get a red dot and a bleep when you have gained correct focus. It only works on the centre spot as will your metering. And It should work manually as this is all I shoot.
At least thats in my experience, having just re read what you asked I am assuming you are expecting more as per the adapter you have bought. My adapter was a cheap as chips no AF anything.. I'm getting confused as I now own a Pentax and use old lens on that, not the Canon. I gave that pile of junk to my Mrs ;0)
