Sony Electronic View Finder

October 13th, 2012
I have a Sony a380 and it has a problem. My extended warranty company went bankrupt and although they tried fixing it once, they can't anymore. I am looking at the Sony a65 and the only complaints I find are the EVF lags more than an optical view finder. Does anyone have any experience with the EVF? I do mostly nature shots, some with flight movement and some still.

I have the a65, but haven't had something with an optical view finder, so can't compare the EVF and whether it lags. I was attempting a bunch of bird shots this week, trying out panning, and captured many of them in flight, mostly tracking them through the viewfinder and wouldn't say that I had difficulties with the camera. Being only an amateur/hobbyist photographer, I tend to blame my difficulties in achieving stuff on my skills as opposed to my camera. overall, though, I love the a65. @2thgirl also shoots with the a65 and may have some thoughts since she's also done nature and bird/flight shots.

@dhostick Thanks Donna- you do have your panning challenge shots and they worked well. I like your photos and I like Sony so hopefully it will be good. I would like to hear from @2thgirl if she has thoughts on it.

I currently have an alpha 65 and I shoot everything from macro, landscape to sports action and can't say I have a lag issue. Seems fast enough at 10fps. I did have a a33 for a while which had some challenges. I think the lag issue was addressed in the a65 and a77.

@brianl Thanks Brian. Looked at your photos and am impressed. Thanks for the info, not alot of Sony users on here.

Not many users but I've found a few. If you can swing it I'd go for the a77 since it has a few more features. Cannot wait for the alpha 99 User reviews. Can't justify buying one @ $2800 but I'm sure interested.

Thanks for the nice comments....

Sorry for the delay in replying; I was in Italy for 2.5 weeks! This week I've been getting over jet lag and going over my 2600+ pictures I took!!
Anyway, I haven't really had any noticeable problems with the camera at all. I am quite an amateur, tho, and there may be issues I'm not competent enough to realize! =-) This is my first non-point-and-shoot camera, and I am really pleased with it so far! I have a lot to learn still, but it seems like it's holding up its end of the bargain.
