Film developing fun!

October 20th, 2012
Maybe this shouldn't be a new discussion thread but its the only way I can share that yesterday I received my Patersons Super System 4 arrived, I've got my chemicals (c-41) and all the other (budget) equipment. I've read at least 10 articles online (plus my book on darkroom techniques) so I'm ready! I've got at least 40 undeveloped films that have been sitting in a cupboard for a few years so it will be hit and miss, but I'm not too worried to start off with.

Once successful, I'll scan and post a few results and share my own version of how I did it. I'm so excited, I can't wait!! Just had to share :)

I'm impressed. I've done a load of B/W processing over the years, but always got the impression that C41 was harder - temperatures more critical etc. Would be great to hear how you get on, and perhaps see some results.

Tempted to get the tanks out, buy some chemicals and try it myself. :-)

@harveyzone I must admit Tom, it did seem a bit daunting but there are so many great blogs and step by step articles, I've got it all in my head now, yes temps are more critical but from what I've read its not as hard as you might think. I figured that if I can get C-41 processing down then b&w will be a doddle lol!

Go for it I say! ;0)

Like Tom, I have done lots of B & W develop and print over the years but have only tried C41 a couple of times. I still have some mono C41 film so I may run that through my old camera and see what i can do - for a change from digital!
Go for it - I am impressed that someone is returning to film!!

How fun! I plan on learning C-41 this summer. I'm looking forward to your results!

Excellent Sara, I've never tried at-home C41 processing; looking forward to the results!

I still remember the total black of the film cupboard at college. I got a changing bag in the end to process the films at home. Have fun, but maybe wise to start on a practice roll to begin with. Make some notes as your hands will be wet to read books.

I did colour & black and white in Uni, great fun! The only thing I found harder with colour is having zero light, esp when printing the pics. Good luck and enjoy!
