video camera

Do any of you shoot video too? Before children, I worked in television news as an editor/videographer. The kids are now in college and I was recently approached by a ski resort to shoot/edit vids for their website. I am wondering what video camera to purchase. Any suggestions?

My Canon 5D Mark II has superb video capability (though I don't use it for that nearly enough). There is a link to a video I took with it on this photo:

What camera do you use for your video tutorials? That seems to do a great job too!

I do some video as well and prefer a dedicated video camera. Lighter and more tailored for the task. My Sony SLT take great video but is heavy to hold and its easy to pick up camera clicks. Something like Panasnic SD60 might work very well for you. Get some high speed SD cards as 1080 hidef video shifts a lot of data.

@grizzlysghost Nice vid Aaron. On my tutorial, I used the on board camera of my mac book so that wouldn't work out so well for what I want to do. Last year, I used my brother's 5D to shoot a fundraiser featuring The Pointer Sisters but kept that camera on a tripod and locked down. While the quality of the video is great, he told me it's not so great when moving. Also, had to change the card a lot. I noticed in your vid, you were on a tripod or something steady for everything but the section with your dog.
btw...I enjoy your 365 pics and think you should try more videos!

@godders @godders Thanks Paul. I will check out the SD60 that you suggest.
I want to be able to ski with the camera.
btw...I'm following you now and look forward to seeing your project

@btorrey I shoot video professionally and we use the Sony Ex3, Sony NXCam is the smaller brother, Sony PDW 700 is the bigger brother. The JVC 700U is another good camera. All dedicated video cameras. I know some folks who use the DSLR's to shoot video. They are tough handheld unless you have a rig and the DOV is very shallow unless you have a selection of lenses.

Check out the Go Pro HD2 to take skiing. A fun, super small, fairly versatile camera with all sorts of mounts.Great if you aren't conducting interviews.

Happy Hunting!

@jtrudell Thanks Janine. The GoPro looks like fun! Wish that was invented when my kids were little.
