Hey guys! How's everyone doing? So I was wondering what the best settings for good portraits are since lots of people are coming over this week. Thanks!!

f11, 1/125, ISO 100

Of course that is under good lighting.

Try a wider aperture for a sharp face and unfocused background. F5.6 to F1.8. Good time for a nifty 50!

If you want to do individuals then use a super shallow DOF as Art has mention.

For example this was taken using the previous setting

And this was taken using a shallow DOF

As Brendan said...if you are shooting more than one person a higher f stop is required to get everyone sharp and in focus. Of course the background will also be more in focus. I always like to shoot with a shallow depth of field if possible, because I like the soft background. It all depends on what you are trying to create I guess.

This was taken with a shallow dof f2.0 and as you can see the subject is crisp but the background is soft and blurred.

I agree with what has been said...a rule of thumb when shooting groups is add an f stop of the number of people in the shot....so say you are shooting a group of 4 shoot at f 4.0 or higher. I like the shallow dof so I try to go as wide open as I can get away with.
