We recently had to get a new computer, and so I need to reload the software for my Canon 50D. Unfortunately I no longer have the disc, and I have been searching on the web (including on the Canon website) but can't seem to find it. I can only find the update, not the actual software. Does anyone know where I can get it?
Thanks.
Canon don't make the original software available to discourage non-Canon users from using it, only the updates. I'm not entirely sure why, as the Canon software isn't all that user-friendly!
It is possible to find and download the software online, but to do so is ethically dubious, and linking to ways to do so here is probably inadvisable. You should be able to find the answers on Google with a bit of hunting...
@twocups@abirkill@ontheotherside Thanks to everyone for your comments. I have finally given up on downloading another version of the Canon software, as it seemed to require changing the registry of our computer, and I am not that keen to do that. So I will just use Windows or something to import my photos. It seems to work okay, I just need to figure out the file names. Thanks again.
I agree with David Price - If you use an up-to-date version of Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, Picasa or just Windows 7 it should recognise your camera and much more recent models without any need for Canon software. If you use raw capture I would strongly recommend using Lightroom. If you desperately need the Canon discs let me know and you can have mine - I've never used them.
@markjohnstone Thanks for the link mark, but my husband has just spent the last 4 hours trying to remove an adware virus that came with the attempted download of the Eods software, so we are kind of reluctant to try anything else. @david68 Thanks for the tips David. Windows 7 seems to be woking okay @glenmoor Thanks so much for the offer of the discs Julian. That is really kind of you, but so far, Windows 7 seems to be doing the job. Appreciate your offer though
@markjohnstone It wasn't from your link, just some other thing that we found. He has now formatted the hard drive and everything is back in order. Hope you didn't think it was from your link, we just didn't want to try anything else. The risks of downloading stuff from the web :(
