California People- Good place for a portrait shoot?

December 6th, 2012
Wondering if anyone has an idea of where I could go with a friend to take his picture. He wants to go to and industrial/ run down area or a rail yard and i think something with a "grungy" look would be cool. Info about him is he plays the drums so i want to do something with that as well. He and I live in the roseville / citrus heights area and sacramento is not at all too far away for us. Any ideas of where to go would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rachel Callison

I seem to recall some nice old places on the riverfront in Old Sacramento. Where Lincoln Highway crosses Interstate 5. Even has a railroad museum. There's bound to be some good spots there.

The Western Railway Museum in Rio Vista is a good spot with a grungy rail yard to explore. The Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola is also very good, but is closed for winter. Both have web sites.

Check out the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. Not too far from Sac. Here's some pictures I took of the place.

I used to live there up until 9 months ago (Roseville). What about on the overpass over the Roseville Railyard (Foothills Blvd), under the Vernon Street Bridge, Royer Park...lots of great parks in Roseville. Nevada City has a great trail called the Independence Trail that is really cool and scenic, too. The flumes would be a great place for photos.

@eileenmabalot oooh! I like that place! I used to go to an old abandoned house at the end of Ophir road in Auburn but had to quit due to too much transients and drug use done in the house. I was very sad when I had too. Going to have to go check your place out. @amandalomonaco @rvwalker @pschtyckque thanks a lot I will check those places out as well.

@ontheotherside hope it helps! If you're up for a bit of a road trip, head up the hill towards Jamestown outside of Sonora. Good train museum there. Also, lots of great old gold rush buildings in Columbia.

@pschtyckque well it definitely gives me an idea of where to go by myself as well.

@ontheotherside Awesome. I lived in Sonora for 6 years. If you like old buildings and abandoned train tracks, it's your place.
