Negative Scanners

December 12th, 2012
I just got done doing a semester of working with film and not pursuing it as a career I'm kind of unsure what to do with my film camera at the moment. I started looking at negative scanners and was curious at what some people have and what to look for when I get one. I shoot 35 mm so please keep that in mind. Thanks!

I've had great success with the CanoScan 8800F (now the 9000F, many have this one). Look for high resolution and negative trays; they can make life a lot easier.

@grizzlysghost I mainly shoot in black and white (probably should have included that in the above) but i've seen a lot of people recommend those models and was curious how well it does with black and white film.

I tag most of my film with "aa-film", all of these were scanned with the 8800F. Lots of B&W in there, with IR, cross-processed, slides, 35mm, 110, 120, 828, etc. It's all there, have a look!

I use the Canon 9000F & am happy with the results restoring images from old, faded & damaged negatives. http://www.scantips.com/chap3.html

@grizzlysghost I looked threw your stuff and it looks fantastic!

@ltodd Thanks for the link. That was really helpful! I'm really glad I did sell my film camera because I didn't know what I was going to do with it.
